Tea Time Tuesday # 68

There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved. ~ George Sand

Hello all my lovely tea friends and welcome to a birthday celebration for my hubby!

This is Tea Time Tuesday and I am sharing our celebration with you. So please do come in and make yourself at home as we enjoy tea and cake together with some members of my family.

As I mentioned last week, we had a lot of celebrating going on Mother's Day weekend. First, it was our Anniversary then Hubby's birthday and Mother's Day landing on the same day.

So my DIL and I got together and made a dinner out of it to help celebrate all the occasions.
I made a Black Forest torte for my hubby. Here it is on display before I transported it to my DIL's.

Layers of rich dark chocolate cake with whipped cream and cherries in between the layers. It was so pretty and a delightful treat!

This wire cloche will more than likely get a makeover one of these days. Right now it houses a little feathered friend and a demitasse.

I love the little birdie on top!

These mugs were a Christmas gift from one of my sons many years ago. They are made of ceramic with a cherry red glaze drizzled over them; a nice size for tea or coffee.

Now, over to our son's for the celebration. I delivered the cake and my DIL, Joanna, served up everything else. It was lovely!

Now, when one enters this household, one must prepare themselves to be tackled! Three boys, oh, make that four if you count my son, living under one roof makes for a noisy and rambunctious household!

This is a common occurrence which takes place in this home; the two youngest wrestling!

Brings back memories because my boys did the same thing.
Combining the personality of a girly-girl with four rambunctious men wasn't easy, believe me!
As soon as my hubby came through the door, he usually got tackled by one or more of his sons! It runs in their blood, you see. Wrestling, boxing, sports in general. Hubby's brother owns the Boxing Club here on the Island and some of his kids have been Canadian champs.

Boys will be boys!

Unfortunately, all my boys were not able to join us because two of them live out of the province. One goes to university in Toronto and the other lives with his family out in Vancouver.

When it was time for the birthday boy to blow out the candles, we gathered around him and Joanna took the pictures. I generally dislike the camera and I avoid it all costs but because it was such an important event, I succumbed to the occasion and posed for it.

Hubby was talking of course! Two of the little guys are sporting orange mustaches from drinking orange pop. The big guy standing in back is my oldest son, Jeff. Next to him is his oldest son Cameron who is nine and the youngest, Jared who is six on Thursday.

I think Brent, our seven year old grandson wasn't feeling very well by this time. He's looking a little sheepish. Too much wrestling perhaps? That's him standing next to me.

I think we were all getting tired of picture taking at this point although Hubby is smiling nicely for the camera.

In just a few short years, I'm going to be the runt of this family because the boys are all going to be tall like their mom and dad.

This is our hostess, Joanna. Can't leave her out! She deserves a medal!

We enjoyed our tea and cake while the boys watched TV after they had had theirs. The cake was served on these french-inspired plates which I gifted to Joanna that day. She plans to hang them on the wall. There are four of them and they match her decor very well!

The lace tablecloth is mine in case you're wondering. I took these before we went over to our son's.

They are going to look wonderful in her kitchen or dining room!

If you noticed, the walls in the kitchen-dining room is a deep rich red and the living room walls are butterscotch. The plates are going to look fabulous!

Tea to the English is really is a picnic indoors. ~ Alice Walker

I had my Earl Grey tea in this lovely Royal Stafford tea cup.

The roses are pink and yellow with a few blue and white flowers sprinkled in. The cup and saucer are trimmed in gold and there is a slight fluting on the china, making it very pretty.

"A gray head is a crown of glory." ~ Proverbs 16:31

" Grandchildren are the crown of old men." ~ Proverbs 17:6

Our grandchildren probably think their poppa is getting old but my hubby has reached an age where his crown of gray speaks of much wisdom. And don't let those gray hairs fool you, he always says!
He can still tackle his boys without any problem and they know it!
Hubby is still very young at heart and he brings much joy to his family and all those around him. He embraces life and he brings as much joy to life as it does to him.

What is it to stay young? It is the ability to hold fast to old friends, and make new ones, to keep forever our beloved in dear remembrance, and to open our hearts quickly to a light knock on the door.  ~ Cornelia Rogers

My father who never gave compliments very freely once said of my hubby, " ' He spreads joy around the City wherever he goes.' "

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not marble. ~ Charles H. Spurgeon

So, here's to you, my sweet Hubby. May you enjoy many more healthy and joyful birthdays!

Happy Birthday! You are loved!

  3. What a beautiful celebration! Happy Birthday to your Hubby! I know exactly the feeling of life with "3 Sons", there is never a dull moment. BUT I always say that God Gifted my 3sons to me to cure me of my critter phobias, AND It worked! Your cake looks "SOOO GOOD", it reminds me of "Black Forest Cake", one of our favorites here!
Thank you for sharing AND hosting.
    Big Hugs to you,

  4. What a lovely triple celebration day! Your cake looks amazing. I bet it was delicious. It's nice to see your family photos too. I have just spent 3 hours this afternoon washing and packing about 70 (!) teacups and saucers to empty our kitchen cabinet for the reno. What a job. I think I'll be having a yard sale as I really don't need all those dishes. I hope to have a tea time post for next week. I left some pretties out so I could do up some posts.

  24. Hi Sandi, Thanks so much for letting us peek in on your family's birthday celebration. How special!

That cake looks fantastic! My hubby would love it I'm sure.

I especially loved the last teacup and saucer you showed. The beautiful colors were almost like a painting.

Funny, I can so relate about the boys. I had four rambunctious boys and one daughter (who was also rambunctious. Wrestling was a popular sport in our house too..requiring the removal of the coffee table at times. Ha!

  27. The cake looks delicious and how fun to celebrate so many things on the same day! The family photo is great. I understand what you mean about being the girly girl. My daughter moved to Florida 4 years ago and my son lives in the same town we do. So, it is often my son, his 2 little sons and my husband and me. My dad is visiting for a month, so we have added another man to the mix and I get so tired of sports on television and the question of "what do we have to eat"? I miss my daughter!! At least there was more balance when she was home.
