Where Did Your Teacups Come From?

Hello friends~ I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.

Do you ever wonder where your teacups come from?

Steam rises from a cup of tea
And we are wrapped in history,
Inhaling ancient times and lands
Comfort of ages in our hands. ~ Faith Greenbow

Some teacups are passed down from aunties and grannies, cousins and friends. Others are gifted to us. Some are found at tea shops, flea markets and garage sales, thrift stores and antique shops. Still others come from unexpected places such as an old attic where they have been tucked away in a box gathering dust.

In any case, they have all been on a journey of one kind or another, just like us.

Some teacups have attended many tea parties and other celebrations while others sat for years in a china cabinet. Others are brand new from the store they were purchased from.

I daresay the majority of mine have been on a journey because most of mine are antique.

My teacups are like my friends. Each one is beautiful and unique in its own way. A little work of art, just like we are!

Today I am sharing a new Gracie China teacup that I found at HomeSense. HomeSense, TJ Max in the US, opened here a month ago and I am so happy about that! I have been waiting for years for one to come to the Island.

This teacup is in one of my favourite colours; aqua/turquoise/teal/robin egg blue, whatever you want to call it. Isn't it so girly and pretty?

My hubby got me the matching teapot too. Isn't he a dear? He's definitely a keeper!

I am so pleased to have it because I have been searching for an aqua/robin egg blue teapot ever since I started collecting teapots years ago. I think this one is really sweet with its gold trim and pretty flowers. And isn't it a cute shape? It makes me happy just looking at it.

I am thrilled about how well my other teacups go with it too. Veronica was a shower gift from my mother when I got married. It is made by Royal Albert.

This Aynsley beauty I found at an antique shop a few years ago and which you have seen numerous times. The camera always makes it appear bluer than it really is. It is really more turquoise.

I am delighted to have this teapot and several teacups to go with it. A mix of old and new.

I’m so blessed to have friends like you to share in everything I do. For one special friend sharing a special cup of tea truly makes this a perfect recipe. Author unknown

Hope you have enjoyed seeing my pretties.

  2. Sandi:
That was so sweet of you to include me. I love your new teapot. Gracie is a secondary name for the company "Coastline" and this is one that has come out since I went out of business. They sell their extra abundance at Home Goods, TJ Max, etc. That's good for you to because you pay about wholesale. The color is wonderful. I can't imagine any teapot matching your cups and saucers better and pulling everything together!

  3. Half of my teacups were gifted to me; the rest I acquired during my treasure hunts! I tend to gravitate towards the vintage bone china teacups, but I also have some newer sets.

So happy to hear that you finally have a HomeSense nearby! I'm also a fan of turquoise/aqua teawares so I'm loving your gorgeous new tea set! It kinda makes me want to run to my HomeSense now to buy my own. Ha!

  4. Lovely pics, beautiful new Gracie china (love that pattern sooooo much!)

I have a few teacup gifts, mostly mine are self discovered as I tend to collect sets for entertaining and not keeping many assorted ones any more. Selling them is my business, as you know, so I tend to move them: keep, give, sell, find more, rinse repeat. I have a few super special ones that mean so much to me they are in the china cabinet and nearly never used.

Have a lovely and safe day. ♥

  8. I have a couple of teacups that were gifts, a few passed down and the rest purchased at antique stores. One of the ladies from bible study always serves our tea in teacups and it sure makes it a more special gathering.

  9. What a sweetheart your hubby is Sandi to also buy the matching teapot for your new teacup!! They all blend so well with your other aqua teacups. I like to rotate my teacups for the months of the year and they're like seeing old friends when I bring them out. Happy November 1st to you, sweet friend!

Excited about your new party. I am writing a post for it this afternoon.

  13. Hi Sandi. Nice new party! My teacups started with family, and exploded. As Bernideen said, Gracie is Coastline. They copy famous English china designs but they are made in China. I love the bright turquoise! Makes such a cheerful table! Have a wonderful week! Thanks for hosting and linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

  14. Hi Sandi,
Oh I do love your new Gracie teapot. My sis told me they had some Chintz patterns at Home Sense and I rushed over and bought a black one but it is the tall shape. Did you see it there? I will feature it eventually. There were no turquoise ones or I would have been tempted to get it too. It sure looks beautiful with your other vintage teacups. I often wonder where my teacups have been and the tales they would tell. Happy Tea Day Dear Sandi and I will try to link up to your new party. Have a Wonderful Week! Karen

  17. The color of the teacups are beautiful and the pot goes nicely with everything! Your post reminds me of Tiffany blue. Quite lovely! Thanks for sharing. Makes me want a cup of hot tea on this wet, dreary day.

  19. Swooning! Sighing! Droolingl over the teapot and cup. That color is a favourite of mine also. What a sweet thoughtful thing for your husband to do! This post made me stop and think how grateful I am to have the chance and ability to own pretty things. It really struck a heart chord. It is my Pick of the Week for SYC at my Christmas blog SusiesChristmasCottage@blogspot.com. Angels to you Sandi.
