Spiritual Sundays- The Rubik's Cube

Happy Spiritual Sunday Friends~

As I was thinking about what to post for Spiritual Sundays this week, I recalled a little episode with one of our sons many years ago.
One Christmas we gave one of our boys a Rubik's cube. He was seven years old at the time and excited to receive the cube. He would go into his room with it and a while later, come out with all the colours lined up on the right sides. We were quite proud of him for his accomplishment and bragged to his grandparents about how brilliant their grandson was! A couple of weeks later our son came to us and confessed that he had been taking the coloured stickers off the cube and putting them on in all the right places.
Of course we were disappointed but we were quick to forgive him because he had owned up to his mischief. We loved him and were still proud of him in spite of what he had done! We were especially proud of him for being honest and confessing his deceit to us.
I believe our heavenly Father is much the same way. He loves us no matter what we do because we are His children. However, when we sin, we must confess our sin and repent, and turn from it with a pure heart. Scripture tells us that, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
Just as my son felt badly and wanted to make things right because he loved us; so we also can take heart and go to our Father who is in heaven, knowing He loves us, confess our wrongdoing, and He will quickly forgive us and restore us.
But don't get me wrong; I do not for a minute believe that God winks at sin! We have a God-given conscience which He has put within each one of us. We have the Holy Spirit to convict us before we commit any sin. We are no longer little children playing childish pranks. If we belong to God, then we will try our very best to please Him and not bring any shame to His name. If we are the King's kids, then we ought be careful to bring glory to His name no matter what we do or say.

  2. What a good illustration. Even though your son cheated, it was pretty clever of him to figure out how to do it. I'm glad he confessed. I've wanted one of those cubes for some time now. I think it would be fun to try to line them up but I know I would not be good at it. Still I think it would be fun to try.

  3. What a good story. You have a smart son, anyway you look at it. This is a good illustration and should help us to remember that we have a great God who loves us, forgives, but wants us to obey Him.We should honor Him in every way we can. Thanks for sharing.
