Spider Cookies

Today we will live in the moment
unless it's unpleasant in which case
we will eat a cookie. ~ Cookie Monster

Happy Weekend sweet friends! After the snow storm we had yesterday, which blanketed us with more centimetres of the white stuff, it is bright and beautiful but quite cold outside. I am so thankful that Hubby arrived home from work before it got really treacherous out there!

Yesterday I promised you my recipe for Spider Cookies. I would imagine most of you have made these or grown up eating them. My children grew up on them and they still love them as does my hubby. Hubby always likes to have a cookie with his tea.

Spider Cookies

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter/margarine
7 TBSP cocoa powder
dash of salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
3 cups oatmeal
1 cup flaked coconut

In a saucepan, combine sugar, milk, butter, cocoa, and salt. Heat to boiling, stirring frequently.

When it has reached a rolling boil, lower heat and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove pan from heat and mix in the vanilla, oatmeal, and coconut.

Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Be sure to work quickly. Let cool. Store in an air tight container.

Yield about three to four dozen. These cookies freeze well too.

Quick and easy. Perfect cookies to make during a snow storm. Thanks for your visit and enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!

  6. We called these haystacks, but I'm glad you have shared the recipe! I haven't had these for years, and maybe this could be the cookie I make today ;) Glad your husband made it home safely before the storm. No fun driving in it, but I do enjoy a good snowstorm while snug in my house.

  10. Sandi,
They sound so good and look yummy!! We are supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow every day this week and then temps. will only be in the 20's by the weekend with single digit temps. at night. Winter is surely not over here either!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

    Hugs,

  13. Hi Sandi, I have never heard them called spider cookies. We always called them no bake oatmeal cookies. Either way, I crave them now and then. :) Thanks for sharing the recipe with SYC.
