A Blue January

January opens the box of the year
And brings out days that are bright and clear.
And brings out days that are cold and gray;
And shouts, "Come see what I brought today!"
~ LB Jacobs

Hello my lovely friends! I have been MIA again because I put my back out a couple of weeks ago. The walker and I have become best buddies, and because I've been in a lot of pain, I had to take a break from blogging. As you can see, the walker is blue.

Funny thing about backs; one sometimes doesn't have to do too much for it to give us grief. A friend of mine put his out simply by leaning over to tie his shoes and he's gone back to physio.

I probably should have gone myself but I decided to put up with the pain for a few days to see what would happen. My physiotherapist emailed me to see how I was doing. I think I have the most compassionate and thoughtful PT on the planet. The exercises he taught me to do four years ago have strengthened my core so I'm healing much quicker than I otherwise would have. Please, if you have ever had a back injury and you have been given exercises to do, be sure to keep them up. They really do make a difference in your recovery.

Anyway, I'm almost back to "normal" for which I am so very thankful and thought I would do a post about one of the beautiful teacups my auntie blessed me with a few months ago.

Today it is the beautiful vintage cobalt blue Royal Albert from the Regal Series, 1970s

This is such a stunner!  The rich blue dressed up with all the gilding makes it a real eye pleaser. I daresay, it's fit for a princess! Tea is always so much nicer when sipped from a beautiful teacup, wouldn't you agree?

Haven't got a lot of riches,
And sometimes the going's tough;
But I've got loving ones around me,
And that makes me rich enough!

I thank God for His blessings
And the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinkin' from my saucer
'Cause my cup has overflowed!
Jimmy Dean ~ I'm Drinkin' From My Saucer

I am also using my Johnson Bros. Devon Cottage teapot. The yellow tulips are so complimentary to my blues and are a hopeful nod to springtime.

The very sight of a teapot puts a smile on the face of most people. One cannot help but think of more serene and genteel times. ~ Barbara Roberts

As always, when I bring my blue out, the wee china birds also make an appearance.

Don't you just love poetry that gives you a crinkly feeling up and down your back? LM Montgomery - Anne

In case you haven't noticed, I simply adore quotes and poetry. And I always make sure there is at least one or two little tidbits in my post. I hope you enjoy them.

This is just a little posting to let you know I'm still here and thinking of you all. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and thank you so much for keeping me company. Take care everyone and the Lord bless you!

  3. Your aunt's gorgeous RA teacup is fit for royalty to sip from! I'm so glad that you're back on your feet, Sandi. I've also been plagued by back problems (but not as severe as yours) and found physio very helpful. Your post reminds me that I should resume the core exercises that I was given during treatment.

  5. Oh Sandi
I am so sorry your are experiencing back problems. I had bulging disks in my back a few years ago and about year ago. I would not have invasive surgery so I iced my back then put heat on it.I sure needed a walker also, just getting to bathroom was so painful.
I hope and pray you recover quicker than expected. This reminds me to do those core strengthening exercises.
    Love the beautiful tea cups.

  11. Dear Sandi: so glad to hear you are getting better. Back pain is terrible as I remember late last summer when I hurt my back and wondered if the pain was permanent. Thank goodness after a while it gets better. You have to let some things go though. Your tulips sure are pretty and your teapot and that lovely cup and saucer. Thank you for linking!

  12. Sandi, thank you for updating us. Sorry your back is "at it" again. Love your tea things in this post. I want that teapot! I am particularly fond of blue and white china and yellow flowers, so this post is perfect for me. And I always enjoy your poetry and quotes.

  13. At least your walker is very modern looking and it looks like there's a drink holder? It really is no fun when a person's back goes and I too am thankful for good exercises from a PT who knew his stuff.
The cobalt blue RA is beautiful and goes well with the Devon Cottage teapot - I have a luncheon plate and teacup in this pattern if you want to get together for tea. ;-)

  21. I'm sorry to hear about your back, Sandi. I suffer with back issues, too, and find that exercise is key to keeping me mobile. And you are right - sometimes the slightest thing can trigger a spasm and put things awry.
The cobalt blue teacup is one of the prettiest I've seen. I'm a fan of blue and white anything, so this post really appeals to me.
    Hope you soon feel well.

  22. Oh How painful backs can be. I don't do my physio excercises as often as I should. You have made me think again how important they are.

  23. Sandi, I am so sorry to hear about your back issues. I haven't had any serious issues (Thankfully), but I do have family members who've suffered with the pain, so I understand/empathize! Oh my goodness, your blue and gold teacup is gorgeous! I do so love seeing blue china and yellow flowers. The little poem/song that you have about drinking from the saucer immediately brought to mind memories of my father who always "drank from the saucer". He loved his tea time, no matter what time of day it was. Since he worked a swing shift, tea time might be afternoon, evening, or right after breakfast! As he was a Christian, he would have loved the words from that song, so I'll enjoy this on his behalf. Take care of yourself and do those exercises. You've brightened my day!

  35. Oh dear, backs can be so tricky and unpredictable at times. I'm so glad you have a good PT that keeps track of your progress. Good for you in keeping up the exercises, and the walkers are such a helpful tool. My dad refused to use a walker at first because of his perception of them being for "old" people (he was 90 at the time!). I think they are a great invention allowing mobility to so many people.
Your china teacup is gorgeous. What a rich shade of blue! The teapot looks so cheery with the daffodils and sweet little china birds. Surely spring is not long off ;) Sending hugs and prayers to you Sandi,

  36. Hi Sandi,
I am so glad to hear that you are back but wish that you didn't need the walker. Your cobalt Royal Albert teacup is beautiful and I love your Johnson Brother's teapot too, especially with the yellow tulips. Yellow and blue look so lovely together. I hope that you continue to feel better with every day. Blessings Dear Sandi! Karen.

  37. WOW! What a stunning blue teacup! I have never seen one like that.

I think it would go perfectly on the tea party tablescape my dear friend just put together recently - come see her lovely fussings! I just posted it.

Praying for your healing, I am so sorry you are hurting, Sandi. Hugs.

  38. Sandi, I am so sorry your in pain. May your back heal up soon. It is awful to have back pain. The exercises do help. Have you ever tried TENS unit from maybe a Chiropractor? I have this one and it works like a charm. I use it for maybe 7 hours. Sometimes it can fix my problem. Saying a prayer for you dear friend. https://www.hsn.com/products/aurawave-perfect-tens-pain-relief-by-tony-little/7469619

  39. Sandi, I hope you've seen some improvement since this posting. You have many well-wishers in your corner. I learn something new every time my husband or I have to go for a course of physical therapy. Last time there I picked up a "slogan" from my PT: "Motion is lotion." So I'm picturing you in motion with your snazzy blue walker. It's so important to have a walker that matches one's teaware! :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh Sandie, I'm praying for you to feel 100% better. And I love that you matched up your teacups with the colour of your walker But.....I wish you didn't need the walker. Sending you prayers and hugs.

  41. Hi Sandi. I've not been visiting around much lately so am behind in your news. I'm sorry to hear that you need to use a walker due to your bad back and pray you will find some relief soon. I noted in your most recent post that you may have to require surgery in the near future. I have had back issue in the past as well but they seemed to heal up and now most of my issues seem to be with my joints - shoulders, knees and hips - and they come and go at will. Right now my left hip is bad and I know it is a muscular issue so I try to do stretches that I learned in physiotherapy. I'm glad you are working with a therapist as they do help if one keeps up with the exercises as you said. Your cups and saucers and the new teapot are lovely as always. I am ready for spring too but we have another big storm to deal with tonight and tomorrow and I'm sure that it won't be the end of winter weather yet! Take care my friend. Blessings, Pam
