Fruit Scones Recipe with Almond Icing

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the weekend and this third Sunday of Advent!

What a beautiful time of year!

Today I am sharing my recipe for Fruit Scones. I hope you will try them. They really are light and wonderful with a cup of tea or coffee.

Fruit Scones

Sift together:
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp allspice or cloves
a smidgeon of cinnamon if you wish

Cut in 1/3 to 1/2 cup shortening
*1 cup mixed fruit {the kind you use in fruit cake} * or 2/3 cup raisins
* or 1 cup chopped cranberries with 1 tsp orange zest.
1 cup milk and a small beaten egg
Mix just until blended.

Knead gently and roll out thick. Cut with cookie cutter or a glass. Brush tops with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-11 minutes. Makes about twelve to fourteen scones.

Drizzle with icing when hot from the oven.

Icing

1 cup sifted icing sugar
1/4 tsp almond extract
1 TBSP milk or a bit more if needed

  1. These sound lovely and not too much sugar, which I like. I saved this recipe and will link back to you if I make the scones and blog about it.
    Thanks.

  2. Thanks for sharing Sandi. They look so delicious. I am making them this afternoon. I may make a Christmas tea blog next week and will use the scones and link it back to you.
Also I love your Christmas tea cups. My sister has the holly one and your little drummer boy is so precious. A great story.

  4. These scones sound like something my husband would enjoy. I'm not fond of the mixed fruit, but he (and others in my family) like it. A tender scone with tea is a very satisfying treat that can take one through to a late dinner. Have a wonderful week.

  10. Hi Sandi,

Your fruit scones look and sound seasonally scrumptious! The only fruit I like in mine are blueberries, but the icing I'll definitely indulge in! Thanks for sharing and love your new holiday header!

    Merry Christmas!
