A Pink & Yellow Tea and A Nod to the Titanic for Tea Time

"The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also." ~ Harriet Ann Jacobs - 'Victoria magazine'

Welcome to another Tea Time Tuesday dear friends!
Spring is officially here!
I awoke this morning to glorious sunshine and a male and female Gold Finch at the bird feeder. They were such a sweet couple sitting and enjoying their morning breakfast. They are the first I've seen this year and my heart simply swelled with joy to see them!

Today I would like to share a lovely surprise I received in the mail a couple of weeks ago from a blogger friend. Lady Linda sent me this pretty tea towel which she adorned with this fanciful bunny print. She sent it to me, just because...!

Isn't it sweet? Thank Lady Linda, I so appreciate your thoughtfulness! Blogger friends are a very special group of friends, aren't they?

This tea towel is just perfect for a little picnic. I have tucked in some teacups and invited some bunny friends to join us.

"Every clever bunny knows, that tea refreshes - top to toes. So put the kettle on and brew, a lovely cup for me and you." ~ Lesley Bambridge - Budgeteer- www.heartforhome-making.blogspot.co.uk

Of course no tea time is complete without flowers and these bright yellow tulips announce that Spring really is here. The white jug I found at Michaels for sixty per cent off.

I have made a lovely lemon layer cake for our tea.

Won't you join my little bunnies and me?

"I wake up every morning with a great desire to live joyfully." ~ Alexandra Stoddard

I am using Colclough and Royal Albert teacups today.

This teacup I have featured before but it's been a while so I thought I would feature it again.

She's so graceful, isn't she? A flared and waisted teacup adorned with clusters of lush pink roses and purple and yellow anemones as well as  yellow fern. She has a high looped handle with scalloped rims trimmed in gold; fit for a princess!

Serena is one of my favourite teacups made by Royal Albert. I found it at an antique shop last Summer.

Now how about a piece of cake and a cup of tea?

This is one of my family's favourite cakes. A luscious lemon layer cake with lemon filling and whipped topping; yum!

Do you like my 'new to me' cake/pie server?
I found it at Lori's antique shop. I set it in an aluminum foil lined sink with some other silver pieces, added boiling water and some baking soda. Now, it's as good as new!

I really like the leaf design and the little shell on the handle. You can see the tulips reflected in the mirror finish.

Today I would also like to acknowledge the 101st Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
We have all heard the tragic story of Titanic and how she collided with an iceberg, causing her to sink to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean on April 15, around 2:20 AM. She took with her over 1500 souls. May their souls rest in peace!

Last year I hosted a Titanic Tea in memory of all those who sailed on the infamous ship.

"In the end, what affects your life most deeply are things too simple to talk about." ~ Nell Blaine

I used china that I had in my cabinets and my silver tea set. The teacup below is Imari with the stamp Oxford in England. I thought it would be suitable for this tea since I don't have any replicas of the actual china. I know many of you do however.

I served scones with a variety of accoutrements.

To date, I have received more views of my Titanic Tea than any other post. If you would like to view that post you may click here or click on the Titanic Tea on my sidebar.

  4. Lovely post today, Sandi [as always!] Your bunny tea towel is lovely. It's always nice to be surprised with a thoughtful gift! Your lemon cake looks fabulous [and I know it tastes great too!]. Seeing the photos of the cake jogged my memory about a white angel food cake recipe that I have with a lemon filling, frosted with Cool Whip. Lemon cakes are perfect for springtime! Have a great week, and I'm so happy you're doing well physically now.

  6. The Titanic is my obsession ... I do not know why, since as a child, I felt a morbid interest in every detail of this story and still I think of heaven as to the promenade deck of the Titanic, where one day, maybe, I can enjoy the eternal peace. So I think with profound participation to the many victims, and I think that organizing a tea in memory of this tragic event was a poetic gesture and delicate.
Fabulous your silver tea service :-)
And lovely your today teacup tuesday :-)
