Fruit n' Nuts

Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful day here on the Island and the weather man is calling for a 20 degree temperature today. It's Capri's and tee-shirt weather! Lots of gardening will get done today around our fair Isle!

A while back, Hubby had a lot of problems with kidney stones and then at his last checkup, they discovered he also had high blood pressure. Turns out that was a false alarm and his B/P was normal after all! He doesn't have a weight problem and he works out at the gym so he is in very good shape, physically!
Still it got us to thinking about our diet and the changes that needed to be made. We're at that age now, you know.....
He had always pigged out on potato chips and after his last kidney stone, he cut the chips out. Very good will power on his part, considering he could put away a large bag of chips in one sitting!
I thought that we needed something nutritious to fill his snacking so, I got the bright idea to have a large container of trail mix sitting on the counter where he could grab a handful whenever he felt the urge for something salty.

I went to our local Bulk Barn and bought some dried fruit and nuts. Apple rings, banana chips, blueberries, cranberries, and raisins were the fruit I chose. Among the nuts I chose were: Brazil nuts, cashews, macadamias, and peanuts. I also threw in some white chocolate for my chocolate fix! Now we have a wonderful concoction of fruit and nuts to appease our salty-sweet tastes!
What do you have on hand for snacking?

I also wanted to mention the sweet award that my friend Cielo from The House in the Roses gave me. Cielo http://houseinroses.blogspot.com/ has a delightful blog and in case you haven't visited her before, why not stop by her garden and drink in the sights and sounds of it? You will be pleasantly surprised!

Enjoy your day, Friends!

  1. My husband had problems with kidney stones last year and his blood pressure is slightly elevated, so we've been trying to watch what we eat as well.

I will definitely try the trail mix - it looks delicious, especially with the chocolate bits :)

  5. Hi Sandi,
That trail mix looks really good...I'm going to try that and keep some on my counter - I do get an urge for something salty in the afternoons! This might just do the trick!
