Springtime Thoughts and Tea

Hello my dear friends. I hope you all had a nice first week of April.

Spring would not be spring without bird songs. ~ Francis M. Chapman

I love springtime! It's a time when the earth awakens from her Winter's slumber and Mother Nature cradles in her womb the first tender shoots of bright blooms in the garden.

The Haunted Wood at Green Gables

The trees break forth into fresh buds, and brooks, clear as crystal, begin to run merrily along their way. They sound like they are singing; they are so happy to be freed from their captivity of ice and snow.

Soft warm breezes stir the air and the lilt of songbirds outside my window harken to me early in the morning. I welcome the melody of my little feathered friends; I have dreamt of birdsong all winter.

The earth has come to life again and I too, seem to come alive and I relish each new wonder of the day.

In the evening, just as the sun goes down, the tiny spring peepers will soon begin their chorus behind my home.

I find myself once again, as delighted as a child when all of these wonders take place. It's good to be alive and I give thanks to God who has created this new and beautiful season for our enjoyment. {This is a piece I wrote a few years ago and thought I would share it with you today.}

I was so pleased to discover that the May/June issue of Victoria magazine has a feature on Green Gables and Charlottetown, our fair city. If you look on page 28, the light house is the same lighthouse I photographed at sunset last Summer.

The home nearby belongs to a family member of my father's former employer whom he worked for ever since we moved to PEI.

Now, shall we have some tea? Today I am enjoying tea time in pink. I think springtime and pink just go together, don't you?

Some of my favourite pink teacups will join us today. Royal Albert is so timeless and each lovely cup and saucer is a little work of art. I am so happy that God put within men and women the ability to create something so beautiful. England of course is well known for turning out magnificent china and has been for centuries.

I have been hankering for sponge cake but just made a plain white cake sandwiched with my strawberry preserves and whipped cream.

My hubby isn't big on cake but he does enjoy this one.

Rainbow roses bring some colour to the table. It was a dreary day when I took the pictures and then the sun came out when I was finished. Tomorrow, surprise, surprise, we are getting another snow storm! This has to be winter's last hurrah!

Would you like to join me for some tea and cake?

A warm cup of tea helps make everything better.

  2. Lovely post, Sandi. My, that cake looks delicious. Those cakes are so light and refreshing. I really like your squirrel-proof bird feeder. As much as I like my squirrels they are such bandits.

    1. Unfortunately, the feeder doesn't keep the squirrels out. We're having an awful time with them too. As long as the squirrels are there the birds won't come around. Thanks for your visit, Deb.

  3. Thank you for the lovely spot of tea on this rather cool day in the Rockies, Sandi.
Your tea cups are gorgeous in their pretty pink colors. Pink is my favorite color, and I find china most beautiful in pinks.
My husband just asked for that same strawberry short cake this week. His mother made this cake and it was one of his favorites of her special desserts. Our dear Betty passed away a couple of years ago and we certainly miss her wonderful baking. My husband is from Canada and they have the best strawberries!
I've enjoyed my visit here today and must come around more often. :) I've missed my visits with you.

    Blessings for a beautiful weekend~~

  4. Your teatime is just lovely, Sandi!

It has snowed for 3 days here- just wish it would stay warm - not hot- so the flower buds have a fighting chance. Not sure what to expect of my lilacs now.

I think your dessert looks so good - I think I could eat that entire cake, yum!

And I spy with my little eye a goldfinch! ♥

  5. Just what we need right now, a delightfully pink and spring-like tea table. I make Bernideen's sponge cake recipe and look forward to the fresh strawberries this summer to make it.
I had a friend for tea today and set a pretty table but forgot to take any photos.

  6. Dear Sandi:
Your post is lovely with the spring theme. It is spring here already but the end of frost date is still about 10 days off. I got in a big bad hurry and planted a few things that look sad. The neighbor assured me they will "come back out". Your cake looks delicious. I always love your cups and saucers and table settings. I hadn't had a chance to open my Victoria but know that they will be doing a feature on Carolyn. Maybe next month? I am very excited for her. I hope you have a lovely Sunday!

  8. I'm so with you Sandi...I love love love Spring. It always reminds me of a long stretch after waking up from a good sleep. Everything is starting to bud and the birds like you said, are so chirper - to me the best chorus ever. Happy Sunday.

  9. Neat bird feeder!! Although I don't have a current subscription to Victoria I have always enjoyed it. I got the magazine even when we lived in Africa (although some issues never got to me.) I shall look for the May issue! Someday we shall make a trip to see the land of Anne Of Green Gables. My mom in law has been there and really liked it. I love your very elegant tea cups!! What a pretty cake! Wishing a beautiful Sunday for us all!!

  10. I loved that bird feeder! And I do love Spring. It is like everything is coming alive again. Waking up after a long winter's nap. I loved our visit to PEI all those many years ago. Surely do wish I had known you then. I feel like we are definitely "kindred spirits."

  11. I'd love to have tea and a slice of your strawberry filled cake, Sandi! Your teacups are so pretty in pink, and your birdies on the table and in the bird feeder are a delight! The quote by Laura Ingalls Wilder is such a truthful statement, isn't it?
