Last week I shared about the first candle of Advent.
This is the second Sunday of Advent and I would like to share about what the second candle means.
Traditionally the candles are usually three purple, repesenting repentance. One pink, representing the Rose of Sharon and one white, representing the Christ candle on Christmas Day.
However, when I presented the celebration of Advent in our church, I always used four burgundy candles and the fifth candle was white. I enjoyed presenting the Advent service every week because it brought a little bit of fun and beauty into the service each week.
The first candle stood for Hope. The Hope being the prophecy of the coming of the Saviour.
The second candle stands for The Candle of the Way. This candle shows that Christ is the Way. The world is lost in sin and Christ is the Light sent into the world to show us the way out of darkness.
"In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, ''Repent for the kingdom of heaven has come now.'' Matthew 3: 1-2
Jesus' Proclamation of His Purpose: Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me." - John 14:6
