Fruit Scones Recipe with Almond Icing

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the weekend and this third Sunday of Advent!

What a beautiful time of year!

Today I am sharing my recipe for Fruit Scones. I hope you will try them. They really are light and wonderful with a cup of tea or coffee.

Fruit Scones

Sift together:
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp allspice or cloves
a smidgeon of cinnamon if you wish

Cut in 1/3 to 1/2 cup shortening
*1 cup mixed fruit {the kind you use in fruit cake} * or 2/3 cup raisins
* or 1 cup chopped cranberries with 1 tsp orange zest.
1 cup milk and a small beaten egg
Mix just until blended.

Knead gently and roll out thick. Cut with cookie cutter or a glass. Brush tops with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-11 minutes. Makes about twelve to fourteen scones.

Drizzle with icing when hot from the oven.

Icing

1 cup sifted icing sugar
1/4 tsp almond extract
1 TBSP milk or a bit more if needed
