If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant... ~ Anne Bradstreet
March is finally here and it came in like a lamb here on Prince Edward Island. Well, this fellow isn't exactly a lamb but close enough!
March holds many wonderful opportunities for celebration. We have daylight savings time coming when our days will be longer. Of course there's St. Patrick's Day and the first day of Spring. Then two of the most important holidays in the calendar year, Good Friday and Easter.
I have brought out some pretty Royal Albert china called Petit Point today.
When I think of springtime, which will be in a little over two weeks time, I think of lush greens and blue skies, pops of colour in the garden, song birds, bunnies, lambs and chicks.
Hubby gifted me with this set of china for Valentine's Day one year and even though it has a needlepoint motif on it, I think it also lends itself to springtime with its delicate blue pattern and posies.
For our treat today I am serving ice cream smothered in a lovely butterscotch sauce. I used to make this sauce when my children were growing up and it was always a hit.
I am not a big ice cream person but some folks, like my hubby, think ice cream is food for the gods. I'm sure Anne of Green Gables felt the same way about ice cream.
A couple of scoops of pralines and cream ice cream, in a pretty pink parfait dish, with sliced bananas, smothered in warm butterscotch sauce, whipped cream and a cherry on top make for a delectable treat. It is as good as it looks too.
Let's enjoy our tea, shall we? The teapot, made in Portugal, has a couple of chips in the rim, but it matters not.
I love things that bear the touch of time; chips and all - they are more beautiful than perfection. ~ Victoria magazine
My niece gave me this teapot when I brought back a Japanese cast iron tetsubin for her from my cousin last summer. My niece prefers a tetsubin over a china teapot.
My niece was very happy to get this. It is cute but it weighs a ton!
Tea is a symbol of friendship and hospitality around the world. ~ unknown
On a sadder note, we here in Blogland received some sad news this past week. My blogger friend Sally at Smiling Sally passed from this life to her home in heaven. Sally loved the colour blue and hosted her party every Monday called Blue Monday. She and I became friends early on when I began blogging and we both participated in Spiritual Sundays. She did book reviews and I was the recipient of a couple of books from her in her giveaways. In memory of dear Sally I am dedicating this post. God bless and comfort her family at this sad time.
And thank you dear friends for visiting. I hope you all have a lovely weekend. The Lord bless you!

Dear Sandi:
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you dedicated this post to your friend (I did not know her). I thought your table was lovely and I have seen the needlepoint pattern while out antiquing. Very sweet. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Sandi,
ReplyDeleteEverything is so lovely and I love you Blue for Sally. I too was so sad about her passing. I linked up to her party every now and then when I had something blue to share. I recently did a post calling for bloggers to do a Blue Monday post for Sally one last time on Monday...
Hugs,
Deb
All so pretty and I am to an ice cream lover YUMMY ! I am so sorry for the loss of yet another blogger in blog land , very sad . Lovely post and tribute to Sally may she RIP !
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about the passing of your blogger friend, Sandi.
ReplyDeleteI've always admired the Petit Pattern by RA. I agree with your hubby that ice cream is food for the gods! Now that the weather is finally warming up, I'm ready to scream for some ice cream!
What a touching post-love your china and that sauce sounds wonderful on top of ice cream. I am a tea drinker, but usually only use teacups for special occasions. I'm so sorry about your losing your friend-it is so hard in blogville when someone passes, even if we know it's to Glory, because though we may not meet in person we meet in spirit.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen

Wishing you warm thoughts this weekend...

So sorry to hear of the loss of your blogger friend, how thoughtful to dedicate this beautiful post in her memory. The lace cloth over the blue is gorgeous and your needlepoint teacup is perfect for Spring and for remembrance, so lovely.
ReplyDeleteTake care Sandi, and may God comfort your heart during this time.

ReplyDeleteYour Valentine's gift is beautiful! Thoughtful husband! I like the white pot very much and I too do not mind a small chip, it shows it was loved. Sorry to hear about your friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your dear friend Sally. I'm touched by your tribute to her. I love your china... never seen any like it. Love the little guy that is "almost" a lamb. And the butterscotch sauce sounds like heaven to me.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Sandi!
ReplyDeleteYes I was saddened when I read Sweet Sally had died. Her posts were always fun to join in. She will be greatly missed here in blogland.
ReplyDeleteLove your cross stitch pattern tea cups and I know what you mean about those heavy iron tea pots, they have some wonderful designs on tem however.
next weekend is daylight savings time then spring !
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your blogging friend, Sally. What a lovely tribute to her, Sandi. We do get attached to our blogging friends.
ReplyDeleteYour butterscotch sauce looks so yummy, and I thank you for your recipe in your latest post. I will make it! I had a hot fudge sundae for dessert tonight, but would love butterscotch, also.
I, too, love the old fashioned charm of the Petit Point pattern. I found the teacup after I saw yours last year, and decided to treat myself. It has such a cottage appeal to it and I love sipping tea from it.
Happy rest of the weekend, my friend! xxoo
I will miss dear smiling Sally very much, Sandi...Christine

ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute Sandi. Sally was a real gem of a lady and a friend. Not many like her these days. Sharing her faith, sharing her loves and always visiting each and every person who participated with her. I will miss her but look forward to the day I will see her again at heaven's door. Thank you for your tribute. Hugs, Anne
