The other day I ran across this wonderful devotional and thought I would share it with you.
THE HEAT OF OUR DESIRE
Did that get your attention? I thought so!
Pastor A. W. Tozer {1897-1963} read the great Christian theologians until he could write about them with ease. He challenges us: "Come near to the holy men and women of the past and you will soon feel the heat of their desire after God. They mourned for Him, they prayed and wrestled and sought for Him day and night, in season and out, and when they had found Him the finding was all the sweeter for the long seeking."
The writer of Psalm 42 had the kind of longing for the Lord that Tozer spoke about. Feeling separated from God, the psalmist used the simile of a deer panting with thirst to express his deep yearning for a taste of the presence of God.
"As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God."{verse 1-2} The heat of his desire for the Lord was so great and his sorrow so intense, he did more weeping than eating. {verse 3} But the psalmist's longing was satisfied when he placed his hope in God and praised Him for His presence and help.
O that we would have a longing and thirsting for Him that is so intense that others would feel the heat of our desire for Him! ~ Marvin Williams
Thank you for joining me today and God bless you.
Sharing from my heart~ Sandi
I agree with you. I wish everyone had such a hunger and thirst for God. It must make him sad that we let so many things come before him too many times. Thank you for this reminder.

Sandi,
ReplyDeleteWouldn't the world be such a better place if all would hunger and thirst for God? Lovely post, thank you.
Blessings,

This was a great post Sandi and I share your desire that everyone had such a hunger for the things of God. I just came from a birthday party full people where God was not even a thought. I felt so bad for them all. I pray that they all see their need for a mighty Savior. Thanks for posting this. Blessings, Debbie
ReplyDeleteI love being around people that have this desire for God.

ReplyDeleteGood to meditate on this.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandi. Have a super day.
ReplyDeleteSandi, it was years into my walk with the Lord that I really understood that verse, and then it hit me...the desire, as it is with our husband, we long for His love and His presence. This was very well put, and I pray that people will grasp the reality of our great need for God,just as we must eat and drink to live, so we must have Him to live! Great post!
ReplyDeleteWill be counting those days with you, til your precious son returns home!
God bless,
Mary

Amen. We thirst for the Lord, but we are prone to wander & look in other places but nothing will satisfy our thirst but him . I often pray " for him to give me the heart to want to pray& study his word , & to keep me close always ".
ReplyDeleteHave a Blessed Week.

We used to live in Sedona where the church in your picture is located. We almost bought a house directly under the church.
