English Teacups for Tea Time

Then followed that beautiful season... Summer....
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Hello dear tea friends and welcome to my first Tea Time in July! Summer has finally arrived here on the Island. Canada Day was last Wednesday and with it came the heat. Hubby and I are looking forward to spending lots of time at the beach, just relaxing and breathing in the clean fresh air.

For tea time, I am going with a pink theme today because I have cut some fresh roses from my bushes and they are sitting pretty in a teapot.

We will use my lovely Royal Albert Lady Carlyle and Serena teacups for our tea. Both teacups are a classic example of the romantic floral tradition that Royal Albert is famous for.

Do you collect English teacups? I seem to gravitate toward English cups when I'm out and about in thrift shops although I do have many other makers too.

Tea Tip ~ Hanging your teacup from a hook can weaken the porcelain.

I read this somewhere once and as much as I love the charming look of cups hanging from hooks in a cabinet,  I don't hang mine because I don't want to weaken the handles.

What do you think? Do you hang your teacups from hooks?

I have set our tea out in front of the window. The snow is long gone and the maple tree has leafed out beautifully. It has been quite breezy the past few days as you can see by the lace panel blowing softly.

I made some Rocky Roads for our treat. I have made them many times over the years. How about you?

May I pour you some tea? We are having Davids Salted Caramel tea. It goes well with my rocky roads.

Enjoy your tea time today and thank you for gracing me with your company. You have made my day!

  2. Hi Sandi. So glad you enjoyed Canada Day. You have posted 2 of my favorite patterns. I love them! Your roses are gorgeous! I agree about hanging the teacups...not the best idea. Also...don't use metal plate hangers...they leach and permanently discolor older china. Have a relaxing week at the beach and thanks for hosting and linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

  4. Hi Sandi,
Your teacups are so elegant with their intricate designs. I just marvel at how many different patterns Royal Albert produced. The roses look lovely in your white teapot and makes such a pretty centerpiece. I don't hang my teacups on hooks but they are bursting out of my curio chest and cabinet. I need another method for displaying and storage.
Enjoy your time at the beach,
    Nora

  5. Hi Sandi,
Oh my! Those are two of my favourite cherished teacups! I have one of each and wish I had more. No, I don't hang my teacups either but it certainly does look pretty. Your garden roses are delightful - gorgeous shade of pink. Your treats look so perfect with caramel tea....mmm! Happy Tea Day Sweet Friend and Thank you for hosting Tea Time. Karen

  6. Very pretty post today, Sandi. I love the tea-cups today; very charming. As you can see in my post I do hang some of my cups. I'll have to re-think this. Thank you for the tip. Your tea looks very inviting, especially those yummy squares. I always love popping by here for tea-time. :-) Deb

  7. I love both of your teacups, Sandi, and your teapot filled with roses. I'd love a tea time treat of Rocky Roads and some salted caramel tea...mmmm it sounds delightful! I'm so happy that you and your hubby can enjoy the beach this time of the year. Thank you for hosting, my friend, and I must mention that I adore the teacup in your header.
p.s. I don't hang my teacups by the handle, and now that I know that it weakens the handle, I won't ever.

  8. I didn't know that hanging teacups weakens the porcelain and sometimes do store them that way...good lesson. Your roses are lovely. Enjoy the day!

  9. Your dishes are lovely.

I just received a hand delivered invitation to a Tea Party. The invitation reminds me of some of your beautiful teacups. Now I have to be on the hunt for a teacup for the hostess.

  10. What beautiful teacups! The majority of teacups in my collection are English bone china. Thanks for sharing the tip about the dangers of hanging teacups.

I went to Davids Tea yesterday and picked up some of their summer (rooibos) teas: Banana Split, Coconut Ice, and Candy Cane!

  18. I read that too that you should not hang your teacups. I don't but I sure do like the way they look. As always, I love your taste. Two of my favorite teacups and I am lucky enough to have one of each too.
Yes, to English teacups! Enjoy your beach time.

  19. Happy Tea Tuesday Sandi. I like Lady Carlyle and have mostly RA teacups myself. I didn't know this about hanging the teacups by their handle - I do have hooks in the kitchen for china coffee mugs and wonder if it applies for them too?
I made something similar to your squares that another blogger shared a couple of weeks ago and although tasty, too soft to be out of the fridge for long.
Summer has finally arrived for us although more rain this afternoon which is fine by me as everything will get a good watering.

  20. I enjoyed visiting you for Tea Time Tuesday. Your Royal Albert teacups are beautiful. And I learned something new about porcelain handles being weakened by hanging. Enjoy your summer at the beach. It always seems to speed by after July 4th.

  21. Dear Sandy,
I am just coming for a short visit. To busy to join in, since a long time. I miss blogging so much.
Your RA Lady Carlyle is so pretty, especially for summer, when the roses bloom. Love the yummy looking treats and of course a cup of your Salted Caramel Tea. Thanks for sharing.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  22. Oh, I am so coveting that Lady Carlisle Tea Cup for a long while now, and everytime, I can't get myself to spend the money... oppssies... I love seeing it on your blog, it looks even prettier.
Hm, I have a small cupboard where I stack the tea cups together, I've been looking for a way to display them better, it may be better to hang them on hooks to see their designs easier. We'll see i guess. Your flowers look pretty and the squares are delicious :-)

  23. Your rocky roads look delicious. I am used to seeing them with chocolate but yours look like a different flavour. Chocolate isn't my favorite and I think yours look delicious.

  24. The roses in the teapot are beauriful! ! I do not hang my cups, I love the look of them sitting in their saucer! Yours are beautiful !

  25. Hello, I've popped across from 'Just Cats' and it was lovely to see your Royal Albert 'Serena' cup, saucer and plate set plus a larger plate. I have a trio in the Serena which belonged to my grandmother, so it is a treasure. Your tea setting looks divine!

    Cheers - Joolz. xx

  26. All so lovely - hard to pick the best one! Thanks for the sweet hanging tip. I have a very heavy and large shelf from Holland and after we move and retire we are going to paint it shabby chic. It has 13 cup hooks for hanging. Shall I or shant I?

  27. As always, I feel so refreshed and peaceful after reading one of your posts. The photos are lovely! Those gorgeous roses in the teapot look wonderful on your table with the Royal Albert teacups. I never thought about weakening the handles by hanging the cups. It makes sense, though.

  28. Just made my day looking at this lovely post. Nothing sparks a beautiful summer day than table set with pink.

  29. Sandi, both of your teacups are beautiful and the roses in the teapot are gorgeous! Love the lace panel blowing in the breeze. I have a collection of red glass in a cabinet in my living room. I have hung some of the red teacups, but don't hang any of my others. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,

  30. What a lovely teatime, and of course I always enjoy seeing pink teawares! You know, I've heard the same thing about hanging teacups that way, but … I continue to hang some of mine, just not my most favorite ones. (The hanging is rather a necessity since I've run out of room to *stack* them!)

  31. I really enjoyed your beautiful pictures of your tea cups, and your Rocky Road squares! It has been many years since I've had one of those! I do not hang my tea cups either, but I didn't know that it wasn't good for the porcelain, so I am glad I have never done that! Enjoy your days at the beach! :)

  32. Wow that's so interesting that hanging tea cups weakens the handle. Wishing you an amazing weekend Sandi...summer is definitely here in all it's beauty. Loving it and I'm sure you are too.

Thank you for having me today.
    Have a great weekend.

  34. Sandi, yes I love English teacups, though I'm also fond of my Blue Danube (from Japan, I believe). I hadn't heard that about hanging cups, but it seems reasonable. I've never done it myself, always just place them on a shelf.
