That Little Red Headed Girl for "No Place Like Home"

Home is where friendships are formed and families are grown;
Where joy is shared and true love is known;
Where memories are made and seeds of life are sown.

This is the place that people call home. ~ Author unknown

Hello my lovely friends! Welcome to No Place Like Home! As I mentioned last week, I am hosting this meme until the week of December 16. It is an exciting time of year when most of us are busy preparing for the Holidays and I thought now would be a wonderful time to host this party. There is lots of baking and decorating going on, so let's share away!

My post today is about "That Little Red Headed Girl" we all call Anne. She is my guest today and I hope you will join us.

Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world. ~ Anne of Green Gables - LM Montgomery
This Anne was my last Christmas present from my father as he passed away a few months later. I cherish her just as I cherish my memories of my daddy.

Anne has always been one character in whom I have felt a kindred spirit. I'm sure it comes from being a lonely child growing up because my family moved around so much, thus making friends very difficult.

Anne and I both possessed a lot of scope for imagination as children. A great deal of time was spent daydreaming about silly romantic notions although it proved to be beneficial, as our way of expressing ourselves. She couldn't help but express herself verbally, whereas I liked to write my thoughts down on paper. And in case some of you may not know; Anne's character was based upon Lucy Maud Montgomery's life.

Anne is standing next to a beautiful ceramic pumpkin piece that Bernideen sent me many years ago when I had won her give-away. Isn't it lovely? The table topper beneath was also a part of the give away.

I always receive compliments on this pumpkin but soon the pumpkins will be going away to make room for all the Christmas pretties. So I thought I would make it a part of my setting today. Anne certainly approves!

This pumpkin holds a surprise! When you lift the cover, you will see this lovely message inside.

I have served many treats inside this pumpkin; mini cheesecakes, butter tarts, even sandwiches, but today I am serving mincemeat tarts and a few squares.

I know Anne would have a twinkle in her eye to sit at tea and enjoy these goodies from such a whimsical dish.

I believe I could be a model child if I were just invited out to tea every day. ~ Anne of Green Gables

I am using my Friendly Village china today. November is here and it's the perfect month to bring it out.
Each piece of Friendly Village depicts a scene from our past; an ice house, a covered bridge, a school house, among other things. A truly old-fashioned pattern which suggests a life of hard work yet such wonderful sentiment. I thought this china perfect for my tea with Anne as she would have been familiar with many of these buildings in her day.

The story Anne of Green Gables, written by our beloved author Lucy Maud Montgomery, was first published in 1908 and has since been read and treasured by millions of readers all over the world. Anne is our most famous celebrity here on the Island and she draws folks from all over the world every year.
"Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive- it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half as interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?" ~ Anne of Green Gables

Mark Twain once said of Lucy Maud Montgomery's writings, "The sweetest creation of childlife yet written."

Those of you who have never seen the 1985 Kevin Sullivan TV series starring Megan Follows, I highly recommend it! You are in for a real treat! It is the most endearing and best version of Anne of Green Gables you will ever see.

I hope you have enjoyed having tea with Anne and me. If you have a post you would like to add to my party, just let me know in a comment and I will add your website/post to my party. I will not have the thumbnail linky set up as it's only for a short time. Please share anything that is home related but no advertisements or Esty items. Everything that makes your home more enjoyable to come home to, for your family, your friends, and yourself.

Posts including artwork, antiques, baking and cooking, collections, china, crafting, decorating, knitting, quilting, tea time, etc...all are welcome.
Thank you so much for coming and God bless you!

Lord, this humble house we'd keep
Sweet with play and calm with sleep.
Help us so that we may give
Beauty to the lives we live.

Shine upon our dwelling place. - Edgar A. Guest

  2. The Friendly Village tea set is beautiful. I have never seen that before. I definitely would enjoy having some of those pieces in my collection, so I know what I will be on the lookout for the next time I hit the antique mall.

Oh, Anne of Green Gables. I sure do love that girl. Your sweet doll is so cute, and what a lovely final present from your daddy. I do so love that version of the series. How sad that "our Gilbert" passed away not too long ago.

I think my latest blog post fits in with the theme of your party. It's about cherishing time with our quickly-growing children.

  4. Oh, Sandi, I loved this post! I always enjoy reading anything you share with Anne of Green Gables...I know I've told you in the past that I was actually named after Anne, (my middle name is Anne with an "e"), because my mother enjoyed reading her stories so much, and I was born a redhead! This was so wonderful. I would love to share my latest post with you and the other readers. I hosted a special tea party this past weekend, and it was such a lovely time. I do hope you and your friends will enjoy it too. Here is the link: https://pamelasopenwindow.blogspot.com/2019/11/lifes-little-blessings.html Thank you for opening up your "No Place Like Home" party time. This should be great fun to see what others are sharing.

  5. I so loved your tea with Anne, your beloved gift from your dear father, Sandi. Friendly Village is such a favorite pattern. I don't think I've ever met a Johnson Brothers pattern that didn't capture my heart. Your pumpkin filled with treats and your pretty cloth, all from Bernideen, add to the charm of your tea party. Yes please, add my post to your party. Thank you so much!

  6. I love the message inside the pumpkin! Your tea time pictures are always so lovely! I have not seen much of Anne, or read the books, but the little I did see made it clear that Anne loved life and seemed very grateful for everything.

I have not written anything new since last month, but I thought of an older post I would like to share, If you think it would work for your party. It is called, "The Day Room." It is part decorating and part sharing old treasures that have been passed down in the family. Here is the link: https://thelegacyofhome.blogspot.com/2018/08/the-day-room.html

The quote you shared by Edgar Guest would make a perfect cross-stitch for the home.

  9. Hey Sandi!
Reading your post made me smile "from ear to ear". I too love Anne of Green Gables and just enjoyed the movies once again a couple of weeks ago. Last year I was thrilled to purchase a little Anne doll off Ebay, which actually came from Canada.
And the pumpkin from Bernideen as well as your dishes are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your lovely things.
    Blessings, Linda

  10. I love Friendly Village and would love a complete set one day. It will have to be a thrift shop or yard sale find!

And of course I love Anne of Green Gables. Recently I purchased the DVDs of the Kevin Sullivan TV series you mentioned, and my hubby and I took them along on our recent getaway to enjoy on a rainy day. We certainly did, too. We've been to Green Gables numerous times and loved it there.

Here's my recent blog post concerning my Christmas baking list. It might be an encouragement to others as we begin to plan our holiday baking!

  11. I love Anne of Green Gables too and the movie version with Meghan Follows is my favourite!

I'm also admiring your cozy Friendly Village tea set. A few years ago, I found FV mugs in pristine condition at a local thrift store.I didn't have space for them, but I couldn't bear to leave them behind so I persuaded my mom to bring them home with her. The following year, I found the tea sets at a church sale. So now I just need the teapot to complete my mom's collection. HA!

Thanks for hosting! I'd love to join your party:

  14. I'm always happy to share in our mutual love and appreciation for all things Anne. She still gives me great joy and delight all these years later.

Oh, you have those gorgeous Friendly Village dishes. So perfect for this time of year. I have the British Johnson Brothers Castles of Britain, they seem to be perfect also for the approaching season.

The season is starting to take off ... I look forward to following your No Place Like Home meme over the coming weeks.
