October was a beautiful month at Green Gables, when the birches in the hollow turned as golden as sunshine and the maples behind the orchard were royal crimson and the wild cherry trees along the lane put on the loveliest shades of dark red and bronzy green, while the fields sunned themselves in aftermaths. ~ Anne of Green Gables - LM Montgomery
Hello dear friends!
This was our maple tree out in our front yard two weeks ago. Alas, it is bare once again and I mourn the lost leaves which gave us some privacy here in our neighbourhood. Our Fall doesn't last long and this year has been quite cool. The high winds have stripped bare our trees of their leaves and now they await the winter to set in.
I have been nursing a head cold for the past week and I am just starting to feel better again. Hubby caught it first and he was kind enough to give it to me. Thankfully, we're both feeling a bit better.
I also had a bit of a scare over the past six weeks. Back in 2003, I had a needle biopsy that led to a lumpectomy which thankfully turned out to be a benign tumour. When I went in for my scheduled two year mammogram last month, something showed up again. I had to go back in and have more x-rays done. As it turns out, I am fine, but I have to go back in again next year for another mammogram. They just want to make sure all is well.
My best friend died from breast cancer which is why I am such an advocate for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. I try to do at least one post every October to remind you dear ladies to take care of yourselves. Please get your mammogram and Think Pink!
Our grandson is celebrating his sixteenth birthday on Thursday. It is hard to believe! We watched him grow from an adorable baby into a little boy who loves critters just like his Dad, to a young man who is full of personality and is very musical. This comes as no surprise really as we are a musical family.
He loves his music and he loves to play guitar. He says he would like to take piano too. He started a worship band at his church and he is also taking voice lessons. We are so proud of him but we miss him because he is living in Ontario now.
This photo I took last summer when he was home for a visit and he played some music for us. Happy Birthday, Brent! What a fine young man you are!
In my last post I hinted at something I had been thinking about and today I will share it with you.
Like so many of you, I am finding blogging a bit challenging these days. I have been thinking about this for quite some time now and I don't know whether to say good-bye to blogging or keep it up and go in another direction.
Slowly, all of my favourite blog parties have closed down, including my own three. Yes, those of you who are just getting to know me, I have hosted three different parties over the years. Mine were shut down for health reasons and now, I have discovered it is costly to have the link-up parties. So, I got to thinking, why not have another party/meme using the format I used ten years ago? That is, those of you who would like to join in may leave your blog address in a comment and I will add it to my party. I thought I would run the party from November 4 to December 16, when we are all planning for the Holidays and we all have something to share. I will bring back my old party button, "No Place Like Home" and you may share your tea time, tablescapes, holiday decor, cooking and baking, holiday crafts, etc., whatever pertains to your home.
We will see how that goes and if there is enough interest perhaps I will keep it going for a while.
What do you think? Let me know and I'll go from there.
Thank you for your visit. I hope your Fall is beautiful where you are and I wish you a safe and happy week! I will leave you with this little tidbit.

Pretty posies to enjoy when I was sick last week; my favourite rose, white with a hint of blush.

Sandi, I would love to take part in your party. I have participated in at least 2 of them in the past. Like you, I have found that blogging isn't what it used to be. The community feel of blogging is gone. It is so much more of a business now, and with people all about "growing their blog," I have found the premise is much more getting visitors than in visiting others. Lack of readership is why I have ceased blogging so many times. I recently returned to blogging once more, but, again, I find the low readership disheartening.
ReplyDeleteSo count me in...This Beautiful Life, which you can access through my Blogger profile.
By the way, I hear ya on the short fall. We are only 1 month into that glorious season and it appears that winter is already upon us. Very cold!!
Happy birthday to your grandson. What a handsome young man he is!
I will pray about your breast situation. A friend of mine is having a biopsy today due to an "irregular mammogram," so as I pray for her, I will pray for you.
Blessings,
Patti Gardner
Thank you, Patti!
ReplyDeleteHello Sandi,
ReplyDeleteI hope you soon feel tip top again after your cold. Like you, I'm debating leaving blogging - it's just not the same as it used to be and I miss the friendliness and comments. I've met some wonderful people through blogging and don't want to lose touch with them.
I'd be happy to join your party! Having a defined time is good for me.
Have a great day!
Thank you, Lorrie!
DeleteOoops, my blog address is http://fabricpaperthread.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI don't have a blog myself but I enjoy reading them, and would enjoy reading the ones in your blog party.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joy!
DeleteI am like Joy B and do not have a blog but would enjoy reading the ones in your blog
ReplyDeleteThank you, tea lady!
DeleteSandi,
ReplyDeleteYou know I remember your parties and I linked up to them before so definitely count me in...
Great Idea!! Hope you feel better!!
Hugs,
Deb
Thank you, Deb!
DeleteSorry to hear about the head cold and health scare. Glad that the x-ray results relieved your stress.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been blogging as long as you, but I've also struggled with keeping up the blog post. I probably would have switched over to Instagram if the app lets you upload photo from a laptop (my camera phone is terrible and I hate typing on the tiny little keyboard!).
I would definitely join your weekly parties!
Margie, I hope that you keep blogging too, but just had to share this FYI: it's possible to post on Instagram from a desktop or laptop if you have Safari or Chrome. I've done it many times. The only downside is that for me, at least, I can only upload one photo at a time rather than a number of photos as can be done with a phone or device.
DeleteI am sending you an email with the specifics!
See you at Sandi's party!
Thanks, Margie!
DeleteI've occasionally been tempted to wonder if blogging is a good use of my time, but I really feel it's part of what God wants me to do. I have been blogging for 14 years and I really don't feel as if my own blogs have changed much (other than hopefully improved a bit) in that time. I will keep blogging as long as God gives me the green light!
ReplyDeleteAs for your party, yes, I would love to join in, and have linked to some of your parties in the past. My blog address is: http://acrossmytable.blogspot.com/. I'm so glad you had this idea! It will be fun!
Thank you so much, Mrs. T!
DeleteHappy birthday to your handsome grandson Sandi. I know you are proud of him. I am so glad to hear you are feeling some better. I hate those pesky colds. So thankful for good test results. Oh dear lady I know those scares. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. I lost a friend as well Sandi that started out with breast cancer but in matter of a few years it spiraled everywhere. I have had several aspirations and biopsies. I am faithful to do my own self checks monthly. I go once a year now and for the last several years I have done the 3D sonograms per my Doctor's preference. Our Hope is in Christ, no doubt. I love your October cup!!! Girl, I get the blogging! I do enjoy and only have time to post once a week but for me that is plenty. I pray you have a wonderful day. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy!
DeleteOh Sandi, your amazing. I would love to join. I loved your parties and joined the fun often.
ReplyDeleteBlogging has changed so much and makes me sad. Social media takes over. That's not what blogging is about. It's sharing in the community of bloggers and enjoying making friends. I have enjoyed your friendship over the years.
I'm hanging in there with blogging. Sharing is my passion.
Hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself.
Happy birthday to your grandson.
Cindy
Thank you so much, Cindy. You take care too!
DeleteIm happy that the X-ray relieved your stress, dear Sandi. I also hope that you’re feeling much better by now, and your hubby, too. I would LOVE to participate in your party. I have so missed your gentle party, and all the lovely bloggers that would join in. Thank you for considering doing this.

Thanks so much, Kitty!
DeleteHappy to hear your x-rays came out ok. It can be a scary thing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful cup and saucer. Looks like a Royal Albert.
It's nice to have a talented musical Grandson. He looks like a smart boy.
I'm happy to hear you are have a blog party. I loved your blog parties.
Sadly so many tea parties have gone away.
I'm not at home for the Winter, I'm staying with my sister Annie. She's alone like me. Although I brought some of my Christmas china cups and saucers to do some blog posts and I plan to do some baking. I'd be happy to join your party.
Thelma xo
Thank you, Thelma!
DeleteSo thankful to hear that your tests came out good, and that you are doing fine...but yes, keep up with those yearly tests and stay on top of it! Sorry you and hubby have been fighting colds...I know we have done the same thing already, but are feeling much better now, thank the Lord. Your grandson looks so handsome and bright and sweet! You are blessed! Happy Birthday to him!! As far as your parties go, I will try to participate...I always love to read what you do, and if I can participate I will. It does seem that people are dropping off in blogging...I think, for my part, I've just been so busy with other things (we moved this summer!) and I find it difficult to keep up with everyone else as well as my own posts. But I am trying to get caught up. I do better if I don't get connected to too many different bloggers. Keeping a smaller circle of blog friends helps me stay in touch better. Anyway, I will look forward to seeing what you are going to do with this, and if I can participate, I will. Thank you for continuing. I always enjoy your posts, even if I don't always participate!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pam!
DeleteI hope you are feeling well today!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved your parties. I would love to participate.
God bless you!
Thank you, Mrs. White!
DeleteI remember some of your parties and loved participating.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a handsome grandson you have. You must be very proud.
Thanks so much, Deb.
DeleteReading your blog and looking at your sweet pictures have been a joy. I don't have a blog so participating in your party isn't possible, but I do hope you'll continue posting. Last year the ABCs of Christmas was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Linda!
DeleteThank you, Sandra!
ReplyDeleteHi! I would have liked to participate in your blog party, but I'm in the middle of setting up a new blog and I'm still formatting, etc. so I will pass at this time. I'll be leaving my present blog behind. My new blog has a new name, new look. Please continue to blog. I do love seeing your posts and photos. I don't live on the island anymore and miss my island home. :-)
