Dutch Apple Cake

"Home; the place where our stomachs get three square meals a day and our hearts a thousand." Charles M Crowe

Good morning friends~

Some of you had asked for the recipe for my Dutch Apple cake. This is a treat you can bake up in no time at all and it has just a wee bit of sweetness.

I know I have shared this before but I couldn't find it, so here you go-

DUTCH APPLE CAKE
Mix:
2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder

Cut in:
1/4 cup butter, mixing well

Beat:
1 egg - and add it to
1 cup milk

Stir in dry mixture. Dough should be soft enough to spread evenly in the pan. Core and peel 4 or 5 apples and cut into 1/8ths. Lay apple slices parallel on top of the dough, sharp edge down, and press into the dough.
Sprinkle 2 Tbsp sugar mixed with 1 tsp cinnamon over the apple slices. Bake in a hot oven 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Serve hot plain, with ice cream, whipped cream, or a favourite lemon or brown sugar sauce. Enjoy!

Have a fabulous day everyone!

  5. Sandi, that dutch apple cake looks heavenly. I've made something similar in the past, but I'm looking forward to trying your recipe. Might just go to the kitchen and do that little thing right now. Fortuitously I have fresh apples to use.

Thanks for sharing... enjoyed a lovely visit!

  6. Your cake looks awesome, Sandi! I made a homemade carrot cake last wknd and it was delish - I got the recipe from Deborah (The Beautiful Matters).
I remember 9/11/2001 very well. I was at work, and people were hugging and crying. I am reading a book right now called Between Heaven and Ground Zero by a survivor. Thanks for remembering and honoring the lost.
