April Showers Bring May Flowers...

April showers bring May flowers ...Or so they say! We got snow last night and unless it warms up considerably, there won't be too many flowers blooming around here for a while. Hubby had to wear his heavy parka out today.

We did see the first purple finch at the feeder the other day. I wonder why they call them "purple" finches because they're really more red than purple. It's exciting to see the songbirds coming back. This is a picture I took last spring after the trees had budded. No green here yet.

Spring would not be spring without bird songs. ~ Francis M. Chapman

In spite of the cold, damp weather, Spring is officially here so I'm looking on the bright side.

Knowing the weather will eventually turn warmer, I am setting my table with blue and white. Those colours echo the colours of the sea and the sky which are predominant when you live on an island.

These napkins I got from Avon and they go wonderfully well with my blue and white china. I also have these adorable bird napkin rings.

Now you know my theme for today.

Soon the birdies will be building their nests. I love the wee bird's nest my son found for me!

I took my pictures before the snow came last night which is why you don't see snow in the background. It's quite a different story today.

I used a variety of blue transferware for my tea table. Johnson Brothers Devon Cottage, JB Old Britain Castles, and Churchill Victorian Calico.

Every afternoon we enjoy our refreshment, be it tea or coffee, between two and three o'clock. It is a tradition here in my home and oftentimes it is taken without a treat of any kind although Hubby prefers a sweet. Personally, I prefer a little tea sandwich. It is just lovely to sit in a cozy room and have that time to relax and a little chat. Do you set aside a time for tea?

Thank you dear friends for stopping by for a visit. It's lovely having you!

  3. I'm loving the pretty white birdhouse. I've always liked how blue transferwares blend together beautifully. It's hard for me to set aside time for tea in the afternoon during the week...this is another reason why I'm looking forward to retirement. HA!

  4. I love your blue and white tea pieces, Sandi, and how pretty they all mix and match. I have a Spring bird theme going on at my house right now, too. Yes, I do have tea every afternoon, but no treat...just tea. We have had cold temperatures, too, and it was especially cold over the weekend. I hope you green up soon on your little island! Hugs to you, Sandi!

  9. Hi Dear Friend Sandi! So wonderful to touch base with you again. I hope all is well with you. I enjoyed your bird comments as I spent the day scraping and painting some Adirondack Chairs found in the alley with birds singing all around me. We have doves this year; they are simply beautiful if a bit of a bully, scaring the little ones away. I hope you have a lovely Spring. Hugs, Pat at Bringing French Country HOme

Always a delight to enjoy this little time with you...and your lovely "birds" and blue and white tea things...so refreshing and delightful. I know your spring seems to be rather elusive right now, but it is coming, as it always does...and soon your flowers will be blooming and the birdies singing, and life continues on in its lovely rhythm.
