Hello dear friends ~ I am sharing my aunt's recipe today. It's easy and delicious for a special occasion, a church supper, or just a special treat at home with your loved ones.
Banana Split Dessert
Spray a 9x13 pan with Pam.
Crust
2 cups graham wafer crumbs
1/2 cup melted butter
Cream Cheese Layer
12 oz cream cheese, at room temp
1/4 cup sugar
8 oz Cool Whip
Fruit and Toppings
4 bananas
1- 20 oz can crushed pineapple, drained well
20 strawberries, hulled and sliced
8 - 12 oz Cool Whip
1/2 cup crushed peanuts {optional}
Chocolate syrup
Stemmed maraschino cheeries
In a medium bowl, combine crumbs and melted butter, stirring till all of the crumbs are moistened. Dump the crumbs into the greased pan and press evenly. Refrigerate.
Mix together the cream cheese and sugar for three minutes until light and fluffy. Fold the Cool Whip into the cheese until combined then spread evenly over the graham crumb base.
Arrange banana slices in a single layer over the cheese filling
and top with an even layer of drained crushed pineapple.
Then add an even layer of sliced strawberries over the pineapple.
Cover with Cool Whip. Sprinkle with the crushed peanuts if using them and then drizzle with the chocolate syrup and top with the stemmed cherries. My aunt's original recipe called for cherry pie filling on top instead of the nuts, chocolate, and stemmed cherries. You may see a piece of it in my header above. But I opted to do the chocolate syrup and stemmed cherries. Either way the dessert is wonderful!
Refrigerate for at least five to six hours or overnight. Yield about fourteen servings.
A lovely desert with a cup of tea or coffee. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteNow that looks like a totally yummy dessert!! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting on my post about selling our home in the future. I am the one who is more motivated to sell and rent. But I am the one with all the health issues. Joe is as healthy as an ox . I know those steps both to get to our house and inside of the house are going to be the death of me. My sons live in the Apartment complex right by us and their heat and water are included in their rent long with all major appliances. All they do is email management if their is a problem and it is fixed the next day. They do not have to shovel snow, Have access to a gym for tenants and a large pool. They do not have to worry about any maintainance issues...It sounds good to me. Of course, I am talking in about 10 years because it will take me that long to downsize!! I too have to someone to do work for us as Joe is not handy either!

Sandi, I would much prefer your version without the cherry pie filling; that would be too much for me. And the chocolate syrup and stemmed cherries look so pretty!
