Tea With Bambi

Tea is a symbol of friendship and hospitality around the world. - unknown

Hello my lovely friends! The other day we took our car up to Summerside to be serviced and have the winter tires put on. While up there, we paid a visit to a kitchen store I had never been to before but had seen their advertisements on TV. It is actually three stores all joined together; a floral shop, home decor, and kitchen centre. I wish I had my camera with me and alas, I never thought to take pictures with Hubby's phone but what fun! I got this photo off their website and oh my, you should have seen their Christmas trees!! There was one all done in teal and white and it made me swoon!

The store was quite large and all decked out for Christmas. It was that spacious that one didn't have to worry about bumping into things, and they had a sale on which I didn't know about until we got there! Even Hubby enjoyed browsing and he was the only man in there until we were leaving.

I had been looking for a black purse for months and found one there of all places! I am a bit fussy when it comes to purses because I am short in stature with small shoulders so I can't carry a purse that is too big for me. I also have a lot of stuff in my purse so I need several compartments. Are you choosy about your purses?

I always try to get leather because I use a purse for years but this one is made of the same material as a kit bag. It has lots of zippered compartments, a front flap, and a cell phone pocket on the side. It also came with the strap I was looking for and it's just the right size. It's not leather but it was on sale so I was pleased to have found it.

Another thing I had to bring home with me was this darling mother and baby deer/fawn ornament. It is a Ganz ornament, made of resin.

Whenever I see a fawn I always think of Bambi, and this one was precious. I am tempted to paint spots on the baby's back but I won't.

You have all seen the china deer that my mother gifted me with years ago. This little one I always put on the window sill above the kitchen sink at Christmastime.

He will be coming out to keep me company in a couple of weeks time.

So, this morning I am enjoying a cup of tea with Bambi and his mom. Would you like to join me?

This beautiful teacup was one of my very first sets. My mother had gifted it to me at my wedding shower. It is Royal Albert and the pattern is called Veronica. It is from the Sheraton series made between 1962 and the 1980s. The cup shape is Montrose and this is one in a series of six. It is one of our favourite colours; robin egg blue or aqua.

A plate of Scotch cookies from the bakery and are they ever good!

My mother always made Scotch cookies with icing and a cherry on top, for Christmas when I was growing up. And in case a few of you may not know the difference between shortbread and Scotch cookies; the Scottish cookies are firmer and crunchier which I prefer. My hubby dislikes shortbread but he will eat Scotch cookies.

It is just a simple tea today to showcase my new deer ornament. The dried hydrangeas were dropped off to me by a very dear friend.

The next few weeks are going to be very busy for us all. Shopping, baking, decorating, and sending Christmas cards. Does anyone do that any more? I don't know about you but emails just don't do it for me. I like to receive a pretty card in mail and I enjoy mailing them. However, my Christmas card list is very short compared to twenty years ago and the postage is outrageous, at least here in Canada it is.

An update on my sweet Auntie P: She isn't making much progress walking so they are waiting for a bed in a nursing home. For me and everyone else, this is very distressing! The fact that she is in New Brunswick and I am here on PEI makes it very difficult. How quickly things have changed in the past year! More than ever I am reminded to make the most of this day because we will never have this day again.

Thank you for visiting today and have a wonderful week. May the Lord be with you and watch over you and your loved ones!

  1. Yes Sandi, I am so picky in choosing a purse, and have never found the perfect one. I have small shoulders and they all slip off so easily. I'm glad that you found one while out shopping at that pretty store. Your little figurine of the deer is too cute. What a delightful tea you've set up with your Veronica teacup and some yummy Scotch cookies. Prayers will continue for Auntie P.

  3. Sandi, I am sorry about Auntie P! Prayers for her full recovery. You have such lovely tea things - this pattern is lovely. I have a few daughters who would love the colors in it!

  4. What a beautiful set of dishes Veronica is. Such a pretty shade of blue/turquoise. I like little deer ornaments also. Bambi is so precious. I'm not familiar with Scotch cookies. I must make some. I usually make shortbread ones for Christmas. Have great week.

  5. We both scored ourselves new purses last weekend. Yay! The Lug Brand offers a great selection of bags. Your sweet deer and fawn ornament look quite realistic! I'll continue to remember your Auntie P. in my prayers.

  6. Hi Sandi,
Sorry to hear about your Auntie P. I hope she adapts well to the change and gets excellent care.
I went to that store last week as well to enjoy the Christmas displays etc. I love the deer ornament you got.I gave that one to my SIL last year for Christmas so I will enjoy it at her home.
How quickly our beautiful fall season is going and soon there will be the white stuff flying!
    Take care,
    Carolyn

  7. Love your Bambi and Mother, and the little one for on the windowsill as well. We have real live "Bambi's" here, and they have outgrown their spots now...I have been taking pictures of them in our front yard this past week...maybe I will post them in a blog so you can see them. Love that cup and saucer...beautiful colors. Yes, Christmas is coming, but I am in post-wedding mode right now, and getting ready for Thanksgiving next week, which has crept up on me, and THEN I will try to get my mind into Christmas. I still send Christmas cards, but not nearly as many as I used to, and we don't receive very many either. I love the cards, but it is time consuming to send them (and postage is expensive!) I hate to see the old traditions die, however. Have a blessed and glorious season!!

  10. What fun to find a new store and see such beautiful things and also find the perfect purse! I too have trouble finding the perfect purse for me and I find that I like the Liz Claiborne brand of purses, they work really well for me and my small shoulders as well. The little deer ornament that you found is just delightful, I think little white spots painted on it would make it really cute too! Speaking of the shortbread and Scotch cookies brought me back to my childhood. My grandmother always made Scotch cookies with a little bit of icing and a half cherry on top, oh my they were so good! I haven't made them in a few years I think I will make them this year, thank you for the jog down memory lane about the scotch cookies! I do send out Christmas cards, and usually now I do the photo Christmas cards. Many blessings to you dear friend have a blessed day!

  11. A fawn was born in my backyard this summer and I watched it's mother take good care of it during the first few weeks/months. Your statues remind me of this special time.

  12. We are Scottish on both sides and I've not heard of Scotch cookies! Shortbread, yes. Are these like the Scottish empire cookies? And speaking of Bambi, one of our book club members wants to read it this year. I never knew it was a book!
I have a hard time finding the right size purse. Either too big or too small. Nice you found the perfect one. xo Deborah

  13. Sandi, so sorry about Auntie P. As you said, we must make the most of each day. I am very particular about my purses and, also like you, use one for a long time. I used to prefer a really tiny shoulder bag, just big enough to hold what I needed. But now I have to carry a bit more (allergy stuff) and have to buy a larger purse.

  14. Dear Sandi: Your Dear Friend gave you some lovely Hydrangeas! I love the color. I pray they find just the right spot for your Aunt. Your Cup and Saucer is lovely. Remember that old saying "what goes around comes around again!" Well, it sure is true with all the colors being spotlighted now! This was a fun post - as all of them you do are! Thanks for sharing.
