A St Patrick's Day and the Arrival of Spring Tea Time

May brooks and trees and singing hills
Join in the chorus too,
And every gentle wind that blows
Send happiness to you.~
an Irish Blessing

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Hello friends and welcome to my Tea Party today; a combo party celebrating St Patrick's Day and the First Day of Spring which is supposed to be on Friday!

Spring, wherefore art thou, O Spring?

There is no sign of Spring here yet because we just had another blizzard. Actually, our Island is shut down again today because of it. Is there any sign of Spring where you live?

This is once again the view out our front window. Can you see how far up the window the snow is?

And this is our neighbor's car across the street. They're going to have fun digging that out!

I thought about getting a shamrock plant but opted for tulips instead. They are fresh and pretty and always speak of springtime.

Green is such a fresh and beautiful colour which signifies both St Patrick's Day and Spring so it will be my colour theme for this week. I am longing to see green outside my window too.

I brought out my pretty Sadler teapot which I won from Wendy at Once Upon A Rose Haven several years ago. The pattern is called Spring Crocus and I just love its shape and the gorgeous spring flowers adorning it. It's the perfect teapot for today's tea, don't you think?

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn. ~ Hal Borland

My teacups are special each in their own way. The first one was a gift from my son last summer. He found it at Missouri's Botanical Gardens.

It's an Irish cup and sports the perfect for St Paddy's Day, Claddagh.

It is has Grasslands Road on the bottom.

Coffee is my wake-me-up. Tea is my hug-me-up. ~ Sam Title

This one was a win a number of years ago from a blogger who specialised in hand painted porcelain and I was the fortunate recipient. Love the beautiful green colour with the tiny pink rose buds sprinkled all over it.

My final teacup is this gorgeous green Colclough teacup trimmed in gold.

Colclough, made in England, a product of Ridgway Potteries Ltd.

I found this one at an antique shop a while ago.

Tea time is me time, a time to savour and reflect. It's a time to share a cup with friends, a time of  comfort, camaraderie, and closeness.~ Sandi

Now let us sip our Irish Breakfast tea and enjoy the sweets of the day. I have miniature St Patrick's Day cupcakes which I bought at the bakery. They are sprinkled with wee shamrocks and are nestled together on a Garden Whispers saucer made by Skye McGhie.

Both the saucer and the cake plate are Garden Whispers.

No sign of this little fellow yet and it may be awhile.

I have made a dessert called Striped Delight which you are all probably familiar with. For St Patrick's Day I have used pistachio pudding instead of  the usual chocolate.

It has a shortbread crust instead of the graham wafer crumb bottom which the recipe calls for.

If you wish, I can share my recipe later this week.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

The wearing of the green....

May the friendships you make,
Be those which endure,

And all of your grey clouds
Be small ones for sure.
And trusting in Him
To Whom we all pray,
May a song fill your heart,
Every step of the way.~ Irish Blessing

I am delighted you have stopped by for tea today! This tea party is all about sharing your joy of tea time and you may be as creative, fancy, or as laid back with your tea time as you wish! Do you have a favourite teacup/teapot, coffee cup/coffee pot, or chocolate pot that you would like to share with us today? I would love to see it and I'm sure others would too! A trip to a Tea Shop is always fun and if you have discovered a new tea we'd love to hear about that too. China collections, spoon collections as well as creamer collections are all welcome. And we all love tea time recipes if you would like to share one of those.

If you wish, you may do coffee instead of tea or the following is acceptable too: Hot apple cider, Hot chocolate, Lemonade, Iced tea or iced coffee, or Punch in a lovely bowl.

  1. Happy St. Patrick's Day Sandi. I do hope you get to see some signs of Spring soon. We have been losing our snow slowly but surely. And I noticed some bulbs trying to poke up through the ground in one of my garden areas. So there is hope. I am very fond of dragonflies so especially like the Garden Whispers plates.

  4. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Sorry, there are no signs of spring on the Island. Your beautiful yellow tulips certainly bring some cheerfulness to a grey day outside. We had not spring, but summer like temps this weekend. Too hot for March! Beautiful Claddagh teacup...so unique! Thank you for hosting this week!

  5. Dear Sandi:
I can't believe all that snow you have and even above the car. I really am surprised at our warm weather as it usually isn't like this. We usually get slammed with snow about now and April. The bulbs will come up but freeze later when that happens. I love your Colclough cup and saucer as I have some Colcloughs and they are treasured. Also, your teapot is wonderful - not that everything else isn't! A lovely posting as always.

  6. I would love it if you could share that recipe please?

As always everything is just gorgeous.

  7. Oh my goodness Sandi, all that snow you have! Well, you certainly have Spring time in your home. Your teacups are all so pretty, as are your dishes for serving. Wasn't that sweet of your son to gift you with that Irish teacup? Your flowers are so pretty, too, and your dessert looks delish! I've made that one before, but thank you for the happy reminder. Happy St. Patrick's Day to you and thank you for hosting!

  8. Good Morning, Sandi. Yikes! That's a lot of snow. Beautiful spring inside with the gorgeous tulips and teatime. Love the Claddaugh cup. The teapot with the spring bulbs is wonderful. Your teacups are definitely wearing the green for St. Patrick's Day. I'd love your Striped Delight recipe. Stay warm and cozy. Thanks for hosting and happy tea day!

  9. Your St. Patrick's Day tea time is absolutely lovely, Sandi. I love all your touches of green! Your dessert looks wonderful, your tulips remind one of the gold coins of the leprechauns - and your Claddaugh cup is wonderful. (As I look to my right hand's ring finger at my own Cladd ring purchased in Ireland years ago.)

Thank you for hosting! Hugs! Slainte!

  10. Hi Sandi; I am admiring the lovely teapot, and especially the Colclough cups and saucers! Your big snowdrifts remind me of ours last year, but this time we have barely any snow left, and I saw a bit of green in sedum shoots just popping out of the ground....very unusual for us. As someone else commented, you have a touch of spring in your house.

Wish I had more to share on my post today, but was having so much trouble loading pictures and couldn't edit them. Will have to figure this out . . .
Hope that snow melts soon! And thanks for the party!

  14. Sandi,
Thanks so much for the party and for your kind visit!!
    All that snow!! O My!!
All of our snow is just about melted as we had a week of temps. in the 40 and 50's but we will be going back into the 30's again this week.
No real signs of Spring here either!!

I am opting to forego my Holiday decorating at least until I get my house and my life more organized. Which I am doing slowly but it is giving me back some of the Joy that I felt when I opened my front door.....

    Hugs,
    Deb

  15. What a lovely St. Patrick's Day celebration! The different cups and saucers are great for the tea party. I love the green chintz pink roses for tea!!! A great idea is serving the dessert with the pistachio ingredient. Hope your week is warmer for we are seeing blossoms and much needed rain in Texas. A lovely day with temperatures in the 70's!

    Thanks,
    Pam

  20. Your Irish/spring tea looks lovely, Sandi. I like the yellow tulips and your pretty teacups. You certainly got a lot of snow yesterday. We got 32 cm. of blowing snow so I'm glad our house is a split entry or I wouldn't be able to see out the windows. More snow coming tomorrow too. It's never ending this year. We're certainly going to enjoy spring once it comes. Blessings. Pam

  21. I can see why you're wondering if spring will arrive this week Sandi - well it will, as a number on the calendar at least. :-)
I remember the teacup your son gifted you and I enjoy seeing it again with its uniqueness. Your dessert looks like it would be great for a pot luck with the pudding a variable to the recipe.
Thank you for hosting your tea gathering and Happy St. Patrick's Day.

  23. Hi Sandi! Wow, that is a lot of snow! I can see why you are definitely ready for spring--it's almost here :). Your dessert today looks extra good--and I'm all for shortbread as a crust! Very pretty china today, you've won some great things what with that gorgeous teapot and the handpainted teacup. I think my favorite is the mug your son gave you--perfect for St. Paddy's Day!

  24. At present I am looking for the Colclough set you have. My mother had a full teaset, once upon a time. Now I have six side plates, 2 cups and 3 saucers, all that are left. I always loved it, each trio was a different colour, it was so pretty. She has given me what pieces she has left. So the search begins!
I enjoyed your post and certainly wish you heaps of warm weather before too long. We are heading towards winter down here so it is starting to cool down.

  27. I haven't seen that much snow halfway up the window in years! Thought I'd miss it - now I know I don't (smile)! I love the cup your son bought you - looks like a nice size for a long sit in front of a fireplace. We have bird twittering, sun shining, cattle mooing, and buds trying to come out as if they're afraid the ice isn't over yet - so YES we have signs of Spring - hooray!

  28. Hi Sandi,
I couldn't have missed today's tea in honour of St. Patrick. We don't have this celebration in Portugal, but I love Ireland and their culture!
We already sense Spring here, but I see that you still have a lot of snow around...It's beautiful, any way.
I loved your choice of cups for this special tea, as well as the goodies you shared.
Thanks for hosting, dear Sandi. Hugs

  29. What a beautiful post Sandi with the gorgeous dishes and that Irish pistachio dessert looks awesome. Although we don't celebrate St. Pat's here n Ecuador, I sort of, because I am a NYorker and we did and even went to watch the parade, plus I grew up in Astoria-Queens and it was Irish and Italian back then. Anyway, St. Pat is Catholic too, so that makes me want to celeb with the table I just posted.
Thanks for hosting lovely lady and have a very happy St. Patrick's Day.

I love the hand painted cup, as well as the gold-rimmed, so delicate and lovely! Your dessert looks wonderful, yes please do share if it isn't too much trouble. Thank you so much for hosting!

  31. How sweet that your son thought of you and picked up that Irish tea cup. It is quite unique. I had never the quote: Coffee is my wake-me-up. Tea is my hug-me-up. ~ Sam Title I will add it to my ever growing list :) Thank you for sharing a bit-o-the-green today!

  34. FORGET THE RECIPE! I AM ON MY WAY OVER FOR A SLICE! :)

What a pretty post. Oh my goodness, we don't have spring yet but you surely have it far worse! At least our snow's melted. We are sort of in mud season and still chilly / dreary.

  35. It's cold here, but not as cold as it was. It's a rainy spring day. The post I shared, A Perfect Tea for One, is from last summer, but I just got a new teapot! So, maybe I'll get an up-to-date post ready!

    Blessings,

  36. Sandi, I love all of your pretty teacups! Can't believer all of that snow. We have had Spring here for quite a while. Wish I could send a little your way. the blossoms are all starting to burst forth and I saw lots of bees on Sat. when I harvested my Pussy Willows. We call the chocolate dessert chocolate dream. My original recipe called for pistachio pudding, but I haven't made it with it for years. I'll have to remember it for next St. Patty's. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
