A Red Rose Tea

"Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." ~ Marcel Proust

Welcome to my Red Rose Tea, dear friends! I hope all you moms enjoyed your Mother's Day weekend.

My mom is in a Nursing Home now and they held a Mother's Day Tea on Saturday afternoon which Hubby and I attended. My niece joined us also which was lovely and it certainly made my mother happy! Unfortunately, I forgot my camera.

Hubby gave me a dozen beautiful red roses for our Anniversary last week. I split the bouquet in half and made two arrangements.

"An anniversary is a time to celebrate the joy of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow." ~ Unknown

My favourite rose is white or soft pink but he couldn't find any so he brought home red. He went to two shops looking for my favourite colour, bless his heart! I love how much trouble he went to just to please me for our special occasion!

These roses are in my Skye McGhie Florence vase.

The velvety petals of these gorgeous red roses were the inspiration for my tea today.

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
   That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune. ~ Robert Burns

So, please do come in and join me in the living room.

It was a bright sunny day when I took my pictures.

"The world becomes a lovely thing!
There's beauty as you'll see;
All because you briefly stopped
To brew a cup of tea." ~ Traditional verse

I mixed and matched some of my red transferware for this tea.

I don't know the maker of the teapot, only that it has a coat of arms on the bottom.

The teacup...This teacup also has the coat of arms on the bottom. I don't have a complete set of transferware teacups in red and I would dearly love to find one. I am marrying this cup with my Skye McGhie Cream Lace saucer.

The creamer is Antique Reflections.

And the wonderful porcelain tea tray holding the  teapot and teacup also bears the coat of arms.

My tea today is Red Rose, an orange pekoe tea, a favourite of my hubby's.

Red Rose Tea is a beverage company established by Theodore Harding Estabrooks in 1894 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. It is considered an iconic part of Canadian culture and many Canadians have a strong emotional attachment to the brand. Its orange pekoe tea is said to be made from only the top two leaves of each tea plant sprig, thus ensuring the best quality.
Red Rose's old commercials introduced the
catchphrase, "Only in Canada, you say? Pity..." (The catchphrase was transformed by Canadian popular culture to, "Only in Canada, eh? Pity...") Another slogan was "Red Rose Tea is Good Tea." ~ Info gleaned from the Internet

Do you remember those playful chimps that did the Red Rose Tea commericals?  I found this on the Internet as well. Sure brings back memories!

I hope you enjoyed my Red Rose Tea and I am delighted you could visit today. Have a sweet day everyone!

  3. Ah yes, Red Rose Tea. We can get it in the US as well but it is NOT as good. I prefer the kind I can get in New Brunswick. My New Brunswick relatives got us hooked on it. Although I do love the Tetley Earl Gray Vanilla. Beautiful Red Roses too.

  4. Beautiful red roses!
Love, love the transferware and the first quote. The tea table looks so inviting. How I would love to sit here. We drink a lot of red rose tea in the summer as iced tea.

  5. Your red transferware is beautiful! I especially love the tray. I have not seen one like that before. The table cloth is beautiful too. We grew up with Red Rose; I didn't know it was a Canadian company. They used to have little porcelain animals in our boxes that you would collect. thanks for hosting Sandi!

  7. Happy Anniversary to you and your sweet hubby, Sandi. I love the red and white tea tray, teapot, creamer and teacup! They are really pretty. I remember the Red Rose Tea ads too. They were so funny. Interestingly enough I happened to reflect on those ads with a friend just the other day. Have a wonderful week.

  8. Oh Sandi, I did enjoy your Red Rose Tea today. Wasn't that sweet of your hubby to try for your favorite color rose? You did a lovely job of showing off the red roses with your beautiful transferware...my favorite! xo

  9. Hi Sandi,
I just adore your transferware today! So gorgeous! I also drink
Red Rose Orange Pekoe tea and always have a big box in my cupboard. I used to enjoy Nabob brand until they stopped making it. Isn't it sad to visit our moms in their homes? I was there yesterday to visit my 93 year old mom and although she is reasonably happy I still feel badly for her.
Thank you for brightening every week for me with your inspirational words and photos. A belated Happy Mother's Day to you!

  13. Beautiful, Sandi! That red and white are so stunning together! I can feel those velvet petals as you describe them - and yes - what a honey to search for your favorites - though in vain. I daresay your red roses birthed a delightful teatime. And YES - Red Rose Tea - I never knew the backstory there. The monkeys taking tea - too cute and a nostalgic jolt. A lovely teatime, milady. So glad your special teatime with your mom was a happy day - regardless of forgetting the camera. LOL!
    Joy!

  14. Hi Sandi
Actually the red roses made your tea that much nicer by complementing the red transferware.
I had a girlfriend in high school that could imitate those chimps very well, she always made us laugh!
    Thanks for hosting.

I don't remember the chimps on the commercial but remember for years collecting the little animal statues in the boxes of tea. Gosh, I wish I had them now. I recall playing with them as a little girl. Thanks for the tea fun!

  26. Red Rose tea is a staple in our home and my 'go to ' when I am not feeling up to snuff. I can always count on my Red Rose tea for making me feel better and also making my tea times special. I know so many people appreciate finer teas, but this tea , after all the years I have loved it, is part of my life, and I am not even Canadian .

I always love your tea times and your tea table makes me sigh for the loveliness.

  28. Hello Sandi,
Lovely that you received roses even if they aren't your favourite colour. They sure do stand out with your transferware, I always admired that and wouldn't have noticed it not matching until you mentioned. It is a lovely set and I so admire the tray. It is nice that you have your mom close enough and you could celebrate this time with her. Thanks for sharing in tea

  37. The red transferware lion mark is from Burton & Burton out of Georgia. You are very blessed to have the tray. It’s the first one I’ve seen and I’ve been looking for a long time!! I have the bird teapot, castle cups and square plates with Victorian women on the corners. It all goes together! Thank you for sharing.
