Tea Time Tuesday

"Remember the tea kettle - it is always up to its neck in hot water, yet it still sings." ~ Unknown

Welcome dear ladies to my last tea party in October!

I pray all of my American friends are staying safe and not finding themselves in hot water or any kind of water in the wake of "Sandy." Also, for my Canadian friends, please take care! Hopefully,we here on our fair little Island won't lose our power or sustain any damage.

I decided to do a white tea today with a little pink in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness once again.

Today I am serving tea in my white lattice teapot with its little  birdie perched on top.

I have a creamy white cup....

....as well as this pink teacup.

When I saw this pink teacup, well, I just couldn't resist it! According to the info I found on-line, it is a rare Colclough teacup, number 6495.

It is a beautiful shade of pink with gold floral and leaf filigree adorning it. I had seen it months ago in an antique shop and when I went back to the store weeks later, it was still there so I knew it was meant for me. The price was too good to pass up, eight dollars. Isn't she lovely!

I think it had been someone's favourite because some gold has been rubbed off the handle. I would love to be able to have a chat with this teacup and hear the stories it could tell! If only teacups could talk!

For many years, I liked everything to be brand new. It took me a long time to appreciate the value of antiques. I wasn't one for thrifting. I think perhaps it's because my mother never showed any interest in such things. Indeed none of my relatives appeared to show much interest either. But since I started collecting JB Rose Chintz china, teapots and teacups, I have found a kinship with old worn furniture pieces, china, and linens. There is something oh so charming and comfortable about them; sort of like turning back the clock to another  time.

I am not serving dessert today, just some plain cookies.

Hubby and I both have to watch our cholesterol these days. I know some of you would prefer just a cookie for tea anyway.

Are you one of my Followers? If you are and you have not entered my Giveaway, then I invite you to leave a comment on my Giveaway post. You can find it here. I am giving away a beautiful table cloth, a set of Anne of Green Gables coasters, and a Tea Shop Mystery by Laura Childs.

Thank you for visiting today and I hope you all have a beautiful day. Stay safe!

"How precious are Your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered." ~ Psalm 139:17

  1. Such lovely pink for your last October tea party, Sandi!

And I especially adore that birdie teapot, as you may well have guessed!

As always your teas are such a nice respite to come to and visit, thank you so much.

Stay warm and dry - sure is blustery out there now. Brrrr. But not complaining after the heat of that summer we just had, I shall put on a sweater and be contented as I sip today!

Have a blessed week, my friend.

  2. Oh yes, if teacups could talk! I bet they have heard everything. It is nice to imagine all the tea parties this one has witnessed. I like your teapot very much, the little bird is so sweet.
My friend's mother is an antiques dealer. When we were growing up their house was filled with many treasures, it was a joy going there. However, my friend just wished her mother would get something new once in a while!!

  3. The storm seems so scary and already several have died in the Caribbean. Your white teapot is so cute. The bird gives it that little extra. I like the foot on the cute white teacup. For the pink teacup, I have no words. It is so beautiful. I myself am completely sold on vintage and antiques. Church flea market is something I frequently visit. I wish you a great week! Zinnia

  7. Hi Sandi,
I was in the mood for a pink and white tea this week, too! I love your birdie teapot and your new teacup is so delicate and beautiful. Your lovely tablecloth sets off your tea so nicely.
I've always loved thrifting with my Mom and was so blessed to get so many of her lovely things as my older sister only liked modern things. Lucky for me! Thank you for hosting your tea party and inviting us!

  10. Hello Sandi
Your new to you pink teacup is pretty and I'm sure if the owner knew you had it, they would feel confident in knowing it will be cherished.
Funny, I had the same feelings about older things and have got over that hurdle somewhat - I won't buy any china with chips and I like the linens to be in very good condition.

  11. Dear Sandi,
I also hope for all americans, that the hurricane will not harm them. The pictures in TV are scary.
You have set a wonderful tea table for us. How sweet is the lattice tea pot with the little bird. And the cream white china makes a pretty background for the new Coalport princess. She is really pretty. Thank you for sharing your precious thoughts, your pretty tablescape and for tea and treats. Its always a sweet event to join your party.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  23. Hi Sandi! Just entered your Give-away and WOW - is it Tuesday already? We've been in storm mode - as you now - and I feel like I've lost days. Everything is shut down tomorrow, too, as the wind gusts and rain are supposed to be causing trouble into Tuesday morning. Things have calmed down a bit where I am - but just 40 minutes to the east of us our seashore is underwater. Our Women's Retreat is scheduled for this weekend in Ocean City - but that is completely flooded over and parts of the boardwalk have washed away. Our hotel is right on the boardwalk - a fabulous Victorian place filled with antiques. Wonder how it fared.
We have kept our power and are fine here. Just a lot of flooded roads and hazardous travel right now. The eye went over us a couple hours ago - very eerie.
Thanks for thinking of me and dropping me a line. I do have a tea post I'll be getting up - Part II of my Teatime at Twilight, this time featuring the display on my tea cabinet. Thanks for hosting, as always - very elegant - the white lattice teapot is lovely!!
    Joy!
    Kathy

  24. Hello Sandi... I love your display.. That Teapot is so pretty. The cups, the tablecloth are so charming.. I also have a special love for things old and worn.. They have a certain character and integrity that you just don't find in a new piece.. I am trying to keep my mind off Sandy which is passing my area right now. Winds are very strong.. Hopefully we won't have any serious damage.

  28. I am so happy to be back , reading tea-time posts and blogs.Your teacup is beautiful. I have another color of the same teacup and love to sip my tea from it. Indeed, I had the teacup out all summer as my favorite teacup, so I do believe there must be many stories your teacup could tell !

Thank-you again for hosting this time of sharing the delights of taking tea and all that includes.

  29. Hello Sandi,
What a perfectly lovely tea! The birdie tea pot always brings a smile to my face. Your Colclough tea cup is a perfect example of gorgeous vintage!
Were you a little disappointed that they named the hurricane Sandy???? Lol! Why is it always a girls name anyways??? Shouldn't there be one named Ralph or Jerry???
    Hugs,
    Terri

  31. Hello!

I was here earlier this morning to linkup, but I did not get the chance to read your post because my husband was getting ready for work.

Wow – that teacup for $8.00 is just so lovely. How wonderful for you. I keep looking for such a deal.

I grew up with used things; we seldom had anything new. But I always felt that there was richness in such simplicity and have live that kind of life throughout my marriage. Of course, we purchase new thing that we absolutely have to.

After 25 some years of marriage, we bought our first new armchairs this year. We have had two new couches in that time. Our first couch was a lovely vintage one that I found in a thrift store for $30.00 that I recovered in an emerald green fabric. Trimmed in a beautiful wood all around, it was easy to reupholster. We had that one for our first ten years of marriage.

All these years later, the price of used things has increase as sellers realized more people desire them. Funny how time changes the way we look at things.

    Happy Teatime!
    :) Hope
